Hello fellow steemians, hope we are all doing great,
Am grateful to @fombae for verifying my achievement 2 link . Though this achievement took a longer time before it was verified, it helped me in understanding what plagiarism was all about and i made my corrections. Though this achievement was not voted upon, i felt discouraged but choosed not to give up. As a common qoute says; "we often fail in life because we copy (plagiarized) from others forgetting that our lives is an exam with different questions ". So i choose to stay on my path. Am also grateful to @b-naj and @wase for their support so far.
Today i will be talking on PLAGIARISM.
PLAGIARISM
Plagiarism commonly known as "academy theft" is an act of taking someone else writing, conversation, songs or ideas and pass them over as your own. A person who does this is called a plagiarist.

Types of Plagiarism
There are many types of plagiarism but 6 types will be discussed.
1)Mosaic/patchwork plagiarism ; this is when someone works is simply paraphrased and mixed with the writters words without proper citation. This can be common in using or writting common qoutes or ideas without proper citation or without using proper qoutation marks.
2)Paraphrasing or incremental plagiarism ; this is when a writer paraphrased a work without adding his/her own words and without proper citation or quotations.
3)Complete Plagiarism ; this is when a work is complete copied without anything or any word changed, this is common with university students where they print out research paper similar to their research topics or assignments exactly as it is and submit it without any citations.
4)Self / auto plagiarism ; this happens when an author copy his work and paste in another piece instead of writing from stractch. Example in students having pre-prepared materials in an exam hall.
5)Accidental plagiarism; plagiarism most at times is by accident, this is a case where the writer had the intention to cite the work he/she used but forgot to cite or cite incorrectly.
6)Source-based plagiarism; this is when the writer had many sources but didn't cite all or qoute a non existing source. This may be done intentionally as the writer wants to pass out the information as his/ her own

Consequences of plagiarism
The are many software that can detect plagiarism this may lead to destruction of reputation (academic / professional ), suspension or legal penalties. Platforms such as steemit,Google penalizes their users when they plagiarized. Penalties can also be physical, example a student in the University of Buea when caught plagiarizing can be suspended for 3 years. In other exams such as GCE, the candidate can be banned from writing again.

From all what is written above we can avoid plagiarism by proper citation or quotation of documents. As a student, we can avoid plagiarism by working hard.
Thanks for reading.
