Achievement 2 : Basic Security on Steem

This is the second post which is about the security measures in steemit. I hope my understanding about this will be accurate.

After the registration, I follow the steps and download the keys and print it out. I also save it in my cloud drive.

I start getting to know the security keys. Here is my understanding about each keys:

Private Posting Key

This one is for basic functions in steemit and it does not allow other functions which contain secure content to work. It is commonly used for login as users mainly view the posts of other users and post blogs, edit posts and comments, resteems, comments and votes to these posts. If users feel interested in one particular user, they can follow it with this account. If you don’t want to do any interactions with some users, you can use it to ignore these users by muting it without disclosing any personal information.

Private Memo Key

When the user wants to transfer funds to another user attaching a memo inside this transfer and not let others to view the memo content, this memo key is used by adding the # sign in front of it in the memo textbox.

Private Active Key

When you have to deal with cryptocurrency transactions like fund transfer among steemit, steemit power and steemit dollar and savings, make steemit power/down in the steemit wallet, buying and selling steem dollars, making trades and other investments in the cryptocurrency market, witnesses voting, and editing personal information, this active key is used to fulfil the transactions securely.

Private Owner Key

This key is for emergency use of recovering any key of the user account so it must be stored offline in a secure medium.

Master Password

This key is to obtain all keys above in the Steemit account. It must be kept safe to avoid being stolen and losing the Steemit tokens.

Besides keeping the passwords in the cloud device, I keep these keys offline by storing the password file in the external storage device with password protected and encrypted. This device must be kept in a place not easily seen. Moreover, I print the password file and store it in a place that is also not easily seen.

Transferring the Steemit token to another Steemit account

First in the wallet, choose Transfer by clicking on the dropdown list beside the steem token section:

Then fill in the receiver, amount, memo if needed and click next and it will ask you to confirm the details:

Power up your Steem

First, you choose Power Up in the dropdown list beside the steem token section

Then fill in the amount in the popup and click Power Up
