The steemit platform is a community where people make posts in the form of blogs. With that in mind it is important to note that 'blogging is all about community and connection', and this makes it fun and exciting. Like so many areas in our life, there are some certain rules we have to adhere to when making a post on the steemit platform.
Today i will be telling you about some 'hidden' rules to follow, more like courtesies that everyone on this platform should follow. I believe in the power that the steemit platform has given us to make post as well as getting rewarded from our efforts. Through this we can harness our special gift of being able to make connections with many through writing, stories, and openness. I can only hope that such powers don't diminish in any way.
As i get into the dos and don'ts of content etiquette on the steemit platform, i want us to go into this lists with an open mind and heart. We are all constantly growing and becoming better version of ourselves, and sometimes we have to get back to the basics in order to grow.
I will be starting with the don'ts and ending with the dos to give a peaceful ending to this post, please read through and enjoy the post.
THE DONT'S
Don't make comments on a post if you have something negative to say:
“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.” – Though i haven't come across any post which have comments that are negative. I just thought i should put it out here for the community. Listen, there is a difference between letting your opinion be heard while being respectful of others and completely bashing someone else’s view or experience with something. Share your differing opinion, but only when you’re going to display it in a mature manner. Also, learn how to discern when and when not to comment. Not everything requires your comment, and learning that shows maturity.
“Don’t read half of a blogger’s post and jump to the comments and “disagree” with them when you totally skipped over half of the post.”- http://www.thepeculiartreasureblog.com/Don’t Leave A Link To Your Blog At The End Of Your Comment If:
You only left a comment like “Love this!” or “Great post!”
You only left a comment that had nothing to do with the original purpose of the post topic.
Let’s be honest: You didn’t read the entire post and you only skimmed it.Don’t Steal Other Blogger’s Work:
I know for a fact that in the haste to make posts and get rewarded from it, we try to copy and paste the works of others. It’s not just rude…it’s plain wrong. It is also against the rule of steemit. And don’t think that people aren’t aware of it, because let me tell you, people notice.
THE DOS
Respond To Comments:
I want to talk on the importance of responding to comments and how it’s essential to genuinely engaging with your readers. Trust me, I get it – things happen and it’s hard to keep up with all of the comments on every post you write. I am sure that there will be some comments that you may never get to respond to because you never saw them or you just completely forgot. There’s a difference in at least trying to respond to every comment instead of not responding to any. This carries over to social media, as well. If someone leaves a nice comment on a photo of yours on Instagram, at least thank them.Make Genuine Connections And Friendships:
When you’re getting connected in the steemit community it is SO, so, so important that you’re doing so in an authentic and honest way. Don’t befriend a blogger because you think they’ll help you get ahead faster. It’s one thing to connect to a blogger you look up to, but don’t do it with selfish intentions. Forming genuine connections and friendships with steemians and other creatives online is hugely impactful for not just your growth in many forms, but for others’ growth, as well. While some have great impact on you, so do you have great impact on others. Remember that, because it’s the truth. Some of your closest friends could be friends you meet this platform as well as on social media. Reach out!
To those of you who’ve made it through this entire post, thank you! Kudos to you! I know it was long, but I think it all needed to be shared and brought to attention.
At this point i want to give a shout out to https://www.coffeewithsummer.com/blogging-social/blogger-blogger-etiquette/ for creating such a wonderful post where i could get some insights from. Thank you.
