Hello my fellow steemians, i am here to complete my achievement 6 task " understanding Curation and Community". Special thanks to @cryptokannon for this achievement task post. I have really leant a lot and also understanding how the reward system works on the steemit platform as regard to voting and Curation.

I have also learnt how important the roles of witnesses are to the blockchain of steemit. Let me share my understanding of curation and community.

1. DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW VOTING AND CURATION WORKS IN STEEMIT.

Voting and Curation works together in steemit. Curation is the act of giving someone something that has to do with monetary value. Curation in steemit occurs when you upvote other people's posts or when your post get upvoted by others. Then you earn some certain amount of money which shows that you have been curated. Curation is when a quality post or content is been voted on.

Voting on the other hand is one of the most important social function on Steemit since it is how users assign value to other users' posts, and how post authors receive reward payout. This is just like appreciating a person's post.

Once a post is voted on, you are giving the author of the post some reward from your reward pool and this reward depends on the number of steem power you have in your wallet at the time of voting. This process of rewarding an author is known as Curation.

The value of your vote is always directly dependent on the amount of SP available to you. Votes on Steemit have value. At the button of each blog post, and comment, you will see a small button

This is the upvote button. It's what you click to show your approval of someone's post and to give the post rewards based on your SP.

When you vote for the first time, you'll notice that after you click the upvote button, you might see small swirling graphic for a moment, and then the upvote button will turn solid green. This means you have given the post or comment an upvote.

Once your account reaches 500 SP, you'll notice a voting slider will appear after you click on the upvote button. The value shown on this slider is your voting percentage. Voting and rewarding depends on the voting Mana you possess.
Every 100% vote you cast uses 2% of your remaining voting mana. Your voting mana will always recharge by 20% each day and you are to wait for the recharge once it's exhausted because it determine the amount of reward to distribute

As a beginner on this platform, i am entitle to vote at 100% voting strength until i get to 500SP to adjust my voting strength to any percentage i want, which can be from 1%-100%. This will allow me reduce or increase my voting strength.

Every user has a mana pool for down votes. This pool is 25% of the upvote mana pool. Downvotes will consume this mana first before consuming regular mana.

Now, this reward is set in a way that 50% of it goes to the author while the other 50% goes to the curator. It is very important that the time of voting is taken note of. All this can be seen using some third party tool like Steemscan and Steeworld, these tools enables you check your voting mana.

2. WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU VOTE A POST AFTER 5 MINUTES

The distribution of the 50% that the curator receives during the first 5 minutes is calculated based on the time the vote is cast
If a post is upvoted the moment of posting, 100% of the curation reward will remain in the rewards pool. The following happens as time goes.
At 1 minute, the curator receives 20%, and 80% will remain in the rewards pool.
At 2 minutes, the curator receives 40%, and 60% will remain in the rewards pool.
At 3 minutes, the curator receives 60%, and 40% will remain in the rewards pool.
At 4 minutes, the curator receives 80%, and 20% will remain in the rewards pool.
If a post is upvoted 5 minutes (or later) after posting, 100% of the curation reward goes to the curator.

3. WHO WILL YOU VOTE FOR THE STEEM WITNESS

Witness is a person who operates a witness server (which produces blocks), and publishes a price feed of STEEM/USD to the network.

Using a Steem-power weighted system we can vote our STEEM blockchain Witnesses, so they are generally some of the most trusted members of the community who are tech-savy and have the determination to keep the Blockchain secure. To essentially become a Steemit Witness an individual needs to be approved and voted by the Community, thus that person needs to have a good-track record and must be liked or respected by others in order to be upvoted as a witness in the first place.

Witnesses are usually elected by a community to produce blocks on the steem blockchain in 3 seconds interval. They are been compensated with steem power as that what they do full time. They are 20 in number and still have extra backups so that each user is can vote up to 30 of them. They make sure that there is nothing like hacking on the blockchain

As for me, the witnesses i would possibly vote are

@justyy that have introduced Steemyy.com and @steemchiller that also introduced SteemWorld.org which help steemains to access information about their account and make delegations. They have created those tools and also prevent the blockchain from been hacked.

4. WHICH COMMUNITY WILL YOU JOIN AND WHY

Communities on Steemit are groups of people with common interests looking to support each other to grow in the Blockchain.

There are several community users can join. I have join some community already and will like to join more

Here are the list of community i have chosen and these are my reason for choosing it.

CryptoAcademy: This is the community that educates steemains on cryptocurrencies. There are various professors that lecture and give tasks to students to work on. I love this community because it helps you to gain rewards too. Since I don't really know much about cryptocurrencies, it is a privilege for me to join and educate myself.

SteemFood : This is a community that enables people to share different types of food that they prepare, and the recipe and steps for preparing those food. Joining this community will help me to learn different ways of cooking varieties of food

Steemwomen club : This community is all about women and i see that i can learn alot about women, things like fashion, makeup, skincare routine, haircare, decoration and other stuff related to women.

Financial Security: This community will help me to Learn ways to protect my steemit wallet and other wallet outside this platform.
