Hello Friends,

source

On this occasion I come to talk a little about plagiarism, in fulfillment of my achievement number 3.

Without further ado, let's see what plagiarism is all about.

What is plagiarism

Plagiarism is the representation of another author's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. In educational contexts, there are differing definitions of plagiarism depending on the institution. Plagiarism is considered a violation of academic integrity and a breach of journalistic ethics source

[...] use someone else's work, ideas, or words as if they were their own, without explicitly proving where the information comes from.

In this sense, plagiarism is the act of taking the ideas of others and presenting them as if they were our own. This happens when reviewing a work already published, such as a song, an article, a story, etc. We replicate concepts taken from the original source, intentionally or unintentionally. In the case of non-artistic works, it is okay to present one or another piece of information as long as credit is given to the original source.

Many times it also happens that one day we come up with a good idea for an article or a song and we get to work on it and then discover, in one way or another, that this idea already existed. This often happens because we consume content so frequently and quickly that over time the ideas become lodged in the subconscious and then when they resurface we can come to think that we came up with ourselves.

Types of Plagiarism

According to the international investigation he carried out

the five most common types of plagiarism at the baccalaureate and university level are as follows.

  • Cloning. This is when a job is replicated in its entirety. Example, an article is found on the internet, copied and presented as its own.

  • Mosaic. This is when pieces of information are taken from various sources and arranged so that they fit together. For example, you extract the definition of a topic on a site X, then, some examples on a site Y, the ranking on a site Z and so on.

  • Copied and pasted. This type is quite similar to the first, but unlike him, here not all the work is copied, but the necessary pieces of information are extracted.

  • Remix. In this, paraphrased information is extracted from multiple sources. The fact that it is not copied and pasted makes it look like an authentic work, but, since in essence the ideas of other authors are being taken without giving them credit, it is plagiarism.

  • Search and Replacement. Here we try to mask plagiarism by modifying words and sentences from the original sources, but maintaining their essence. This one is basically like the previous type, only it goes a step further by modifying the vocabulary and structures to make it look like the material is authentic.

How to avoid plagiarism

First of all, we must be willing not to commit plagiarism. From there, we have to take the necessary actions to avoid it. The best way to do this is to take the time to do our research before making our post and compare the ideas we have with the ones we find. Then, if we are going to use information from other sources, we must give the corresponding credit, mentioning the author, if any, and placing the website.

In short, plagiarism is the presentation of other authors' ideas as if they were our own. There are different types of plagiarism, such as mosaic, remix or search and replacement. We can avoid presenting content from others as our own by properly researching and giving credit to the work of others.

Well, I hope you find it. We are reading.
