Greetings to everyone in this community. Welcome to all the newbies here and to the greeters and admins. It's been a while. I was off from this platform after completing my Achievement 2 task because of my lackadaisical attitude. I gave up writing because I wasn't interested anymore since it was stressful. But thanks to @bossj23 who revived that spirit of seriousness in me....I guess I'm fully back on steemit to complete my journey here in this social media platform. Having completed achievement 2 task and was rated, I want to enter my achievement 3 task which is about Plagiarism. Why is Plagiarism overemphasized here and what should we know about Plagiarism?

What is Plagiarism

When you hear of the word Plagiarism, what comes to your mind? For me, it is an act that reduces stress from writing but a prohibited act.
Plagiarism is more like an activity that involves framing the work or ideas of others without giving credit to the original author from which which copy from. It is an act of using someone's work to create ours without referencing the original author. It can also be called copyright. Plagiarism has been rendered a stress free, easy and acceptable method of creating content with ease without having to think to much or being original. Many people are lackadaisical and reluctant to try something for themselves. They want short cut that's why they tend to plagiarise. Plagiarism means using pictures, phrases, quotes, write-ups and videos of people without giving reference or credit to the owners.

Types of Plagiarism

  • Direct plagiarism
  • Mosaic Plagiarism
  • Phrase Plagiarism
  • Self Plagiarism

Self-plagiarism

Self-plagiarism occurs when a content creator reuses or follows one pattern of writing, i.e he uses words or sentences repeatedly in his post from the ones published or he edits the post he already published and create one for another community. Example,

I published a post in steemkids community regarding science and technology and then I edit that published post and used it in creating another content in another community.

Direct plagiarism

It is direct form of plagiarism where an author copies everything without changing any letter or word and then using it to publish content for ourselves without even giving reference or credit to the original author. It is an act of copy and paste. This is because an author has copied the text of other authors directly from the author's site.

Phrase Plagiarism

It is the best known form of crime. This includes using someone else's work and applying it by editing words or sentences yourself. This is a serious and most common form of plagiarism as people edit words from people's write-up to create theirs.

How to avoid plagiarism

  • Being original and creative is the watchword of steemit platform.
  • Be disciplined
  • If you want to copy another author's work you must source it properly like this...
[Source](Link of the write-up or picture you copied)
  • Use theories, ideas, critiques, readings, etc.

  • Use citation and Plagiarism checker to check your post before publishing it....

This is how to apply citation

According to Advanced English dictionary, A chemist is a person whose job is to prepare and sell medicines, and who works in a shop.
