INTRODUCTION
Hello Steemians, I remain @young-ancient. Growth is inevitable in every aspect of life same on #steemit. So today, I will be making my Achievement3 post in the newcomers community which will aid my growth in the knowledge and understanding of events/affairs on #steemit.
This post is basically concerned with content Etiquette. Achievement3 post requires one to talk about plagiarism and how one can avoid practicing plagiarism.
First of all, let's establish the concept of content Etiquette. The word, content generally means a material filled with facts or information. Etiquette is a social word which means the sets of rules that control acceptable behaviours in the society. Source
Marrying the two words together, content Etiquette means the rules or acceptable style of writing a well detailed material without fault. On steemit, every Steemian is expected to write original quality contents and post after undergoing mentorship by various cordinators.
The originality of content by steem users is highly recommended and appreciated on #steemit. The wonderful platform warns against plagiarism for it is against the acceptable standard of writing.
PLAGIARISM
The word, plagiarism, in ordinary parlance means to copy, paste then publish the ideas of another person. In other words, plagiarism means to present the ideas or inventions of another person as your own without the consent of the owner of such ideas. source
It's is always disheartening for a legal owner of a piece of work to see his hardworked idea presented in the public without his approval or acknowledgement. In law, plagiarism is also known as intellectual property theft or piracy. Plagiarism may be intentional or unintentional.
There are various forms If plagiarism but the most common are plagiarism of text, ideas, quotation or inventions.
Plagiarism is legally not accepted in academics and also on #steemit. A student or steemian is always encouraged in schools and on steam it respectively to be original with their content and also try to state the source of their work in case there is any trace of copy and paste. In this way, one can correctly acknowledge the original writer of the idea or text.
Tips to avoid plagiarism while writing on steemit is to conduct some research about the topic or title to write about. If in the course of the research, one wants to quote text/idea, the source of the idea should be stated. Again, one should endeavour to perform plagiarism test on his content using the available online plagiarism tools.
THE HARMFUL EFFECTS OF STEEMIT
When a steemian is found guilty of plagiarism, he or she faces the following consequences;
•Downvote: this means a plagiarised post on steemit will not be voted by steem members.
•Non-participation: If one is found to be practicing plagiarism, he may be banned from participating from contest in a community.
•Bad name: steem users will also disregard your post and discourage others from reading or voting or commenting your post thereby spoiling your reputation on steemit.
CONCLUSION
Plagiarism is one of the greatest offences any steemian will commit. The platform strictly warns against it whilst encouraging its esteemed users to create original content.
"I have read and understood the steemit Etiquette on steemit community and I will do my best to embrace them".
Special thanks to @peterabagi for his continuous encouragement on #steemit and also @thebeloved001 for the guide through every step #steemit.
