WHAT IS PLAGIARISM??

Plagiarism is the representation of another author’s language, thoughts, ideas as one’s original work.
In other words it is the use of one’s work without giving them credit. This is stealing.

COMMON TYPES OF PLAGIARISM
There are various types of plagiarism and these are as discussed below;

  1. DIRECT PLAGIARISM
This is where one uses the words of another in the exact form they were used without quoting and pass it as their own work. It’s the deliberate plagiarism of someone else’s work unethical, academically dishonest and grounds for disciplinary action may include explusion.

  2. SELF PLAGIARISM
This Ian recycling or re using one’s own specific words from previously being published texts.
Thus it is any attempt to take any of your own previously published texts, or papers or research results and make it appear brand new.

  3. MOSAIC PLAGIARISM
This is when someone borrows phrases from a source without using quotation marks, or finds synonyms for the author’s language while keeping the same general language structure and meaning as found in the original.

  4. ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM
This occurs when a person neglects to cite their sources, or misquotes their sources by using similar words, group of words or sentences without their attribution.

  5. PARAPHRASING PLAGIARISM
Here, the writer paraphrases someone else’s writing in his own words without adding his or her own idea such that the idea remains the same.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM
Below are some orb the measures that can be taken by one to avoid plagiarism ,

— Always put quotation marks around notes taken directly from texts.

— Avoid using any source with which you are not completely comfortable.

— Always seek permission .

— Cite your source in full as you write .

— Doing plagiarism checking before posting the content .

Plagiarism is a wrong act and it is not welcomed on the steemit platform. Users are expected to use their knowledge and develop original content. I am very glad to have shared my knowledge about content etiquette on steemit.
