I do not know about you, but in my adolescence and childhood especially (in the 90s), there was an American series called "X File", which surely, like me, stimulated our curiosity about hidden and mysterious topics, among them and mainly about aliens.
And to all this fashion of mysteries and ufologies, the cherry on the cake was added. A video made with a simple camera in hand, which with the current media is known to have been, a fake documentary-style film, which by that time left me open-mouthed and with even bigger doubts. Added to all this was the lack of information from those 90s times, which hardly came through these parts of my country. And the work that I bring you today is the "Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County ".
"Alien Abduction: Incident in Lake County" is a documentary style but bogus production, released in 1998. It was directed by Dean Alioto and starred Benz Antoine, Kristian Ayre, Gillian Barber and Emmanuelle Chriqui. This amateur production, pioneering in its genre, gave the guidelines for subsequent productions in real video style.
Synopsis.
Fall 1997; An abandoned video camera is found in a house where an entire family has disappeared. When watching the tape, the police observe that on the eve of the Thanksgiving holiday, an American family experiences strange phenomena in its celebration. After seeing lights and seeing an alien ship, the family will receive the dark visit of aliens with big eyes, but small in stature.
All this is recorded in a non-professional way, by one of the sons with a home camera, while frightenedly resisting that these strange beings enter the house in which they took refuge. The film is divided into video sequences, and interviews with the different witnesses who allegedly found the recording and who investigated it, trying to analyze and determine whether or not the recording is false.
In these times of fake news, nowadays mostly known as "Fake News", in which it is in itself difficult to distinguish a truth from a lie, and that even when these news are unmasked, they are reproduced as truth in many places. And if I told you that this amateur production was one of them, and made before that term was coined; in the same style as Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds", this work caused controversy at that time, in distant Lake County.
It is curious that without wanting to, I return to a post with this topic, about the coming from outside of visitors from other planets (topic of Ufology), if we previously saw in "Prometheus" the possibility of extraterrestrial life and creation; This time we find another question that many believers or not on this topic ask themselves. If abductions really exist or occur, made by these beings.
In this way, going back to the consequences that this production brought with it was, a concern of the people for that family, search actions, calls to police stations, and most importantly revelations of people who believed they had also been abducted, by strange beings. All this commotion was caused because the original broadcast with credits was edited in some sectors, especially in the ufology, these believing that the video was real.
It is noteworthy that this production made in 97 was actually a new adaptation of the same version of the director made in 1988, developed more informally, including him, holding the recording camera. Finally, all this brings us several concerns, including ufology, for those who are attracted to these issues, the manipulation of the media, and especially the viralization of "Fake News", even before the term was coined.
To finish, this production is not a masterpiece and even for many experts in productions it could be of poor quality, but to see it in those years of innocence, and with little information than there is today, of course it is easy to fall into these theories or false news.
