Strips, Oil Pastels on Paper, 2016
Like I said yesterday, I was doing experimental work at the time.
I didn't know whether or not to include this, but I did just because it was such a random idea. I drew some lines and then kinda said "I guess I am done." Some artists try to be deep and poetic about what they do, but not me. At least not here. And if I ever become posthumously famous I don't want some art expert reading deeper meaning into something like this. It's lines on a paper, nothing more, nothing less.
I could have said this is a symbolic rendering of the various paths we all take in our lives. Or an image of the separation we feel in our journeys. Or maybe it's just people headed down a ski slope. I could have said anything and there are some out there who would eat it up and go "Wow, Man, That's DEEP!"
Art is what you see in it. I think sometimes an artist just does something he thinks is cool and puts it out there for an audience who ascribes all kinds of deeper meaning and emotion to it. They want it to have more meaning, so they make it so, whether or not the original artist ever had that meaning in mind.
So what do you think is the deeper symbolism here? Or is it really just lines?
I’m posting every painting I have ever done from 2014 to the present, the good, the bad, and the ugly. With an occasional photograph or sketch thrown in just to mix things up. Check back daily to see my progression as an “artist”!
