What is going on with this... tree?

Is the white tree eating the palm?

Just saw this at the Botanical gardens. What the heck is going on here? I'm not even sure how this happened.

I can't decide if the palm was there first, or the other tree. Either way, this looks really bizarre! Nature can do some pretty strange things.
