Chronicle from the lockdown - day two.

Well, I think everyone know here in Italy we are in lockdown and I decided to write every day something about what's happening to everyone here. I'm ok and the same for my family and friends, but everyone here is doing the best to contain the contagion and it's not simple. Not, it's not simple for us.

Today I read a news on some newspaper online about a tv star called Dr Christian Jessen who said "Italian people are using the coronavirus outbreak as an excuse to have a “long siesta”".

Well, I'm pretty sure he's not just "a little bit racist", but also a big liar and a person who doesn't know italian people. I also think he's an idiot, but I'm saying this because I'm angry to read something like this. I have to stay closed at home, I can't go to the bookshop where I'm working since December (and so I can't earn money from that job), I can't go to visit my parents to give an hug because they are old and I want they stay safe more than possible. I can't buy the materials I need to work at home and sure, the same for my hubby. We were doing 2 different jobs to have enough money to live, so I'd like to work like before the covid-19. Like me, I know a lot of people who have the same issues: little shops closed, every kind of freelance and a lot of people who need to work to have money for food, fees and needed. Nw we are all in worries because the covid-19 and we are following the rules the government gave us and those rules are the right rules to contain the contagion. When the contagion will be stopped, so we could cry for our economy, but now it's time to stay safe for us and for all the world.

Sorry to read it's just because we want a "long siesta" (and just to know, "siesta" is a spanish word, not an italian word!!!), but I'm pretty sure a tv star like that doesn't know what means to stay in a blockdown when you don't have money to enjoy that moment like a simple pause from work.

Yes, I'm angry and I'm sad. I'm human.

We are doing the best to stay in a quiet way closed at home. We are doing the best to have no panic. We are doing the best because we know to stop the virus is the most important think now.

Our hospitals are close to a collapse even if our health system is very good. Every doctors and all the people who works in the health fields are working 12-16 hours at day, some of them are sleeping insinde the hospitals to be ready for every needs.

People who works on the food fields or other fields that can't be stopped are working hard.

People who can't work because the companies were closed gave their help stayng at home. Closed inside the home. No bar, no restaurant, no park, no shops.

We are staying in touch each others just via phono or via social. Everyone.

We are all waiting until the april 3th to know if the contagion will be more slow than now.

There someone else who are thinking we are using the coronavirus outbreak as an excuse to have a “long siesta”??? I think no.

To everyone in the world: please, stay safe. Clean your hands, stay at the right distance each others and follow the tips from the WHO (Worl Health Oranization), the only way to have the right instruction!

A warm virtual and safe hug to everyone,

Silvia

Interesting to read about your experience. I fear that the UK will follow the same quarantine policy within days or weeks. Take care 🙏🏽

Dear Fleur, it will be an hard time, but it's really the only way to stop this nightmare. We started about one month ago using quarantine policies just for the areas with more infected, but it was not enough. It will be an hard time, but I can give you a positive thought about the quarantine: here people is changing (sure, not everyone, but the most part of us) in better. Today, in the afternoon, there are a lot of people at the windows who are singing a song all together just to feel everyone not lonely. I'm pretty sure tat if we all follow the rules, this contagion will be stopped. <3 Hugs.

He sounds like a grade A chocolate starfish, grrr

Lol Dear @meesterboom, you know I love your way to speech, forever and ever!!! You make me smile in a day I need to smile and I'll use "like a grade a chocolate starfish" for the next similar situation :D

If I can raise a smile I'm happy!! Hope this stuff all calms down very soon

I hope all will be much better soon. It is beginning where I am in the USA - all events and schools are being shut down, and the grocery store shelves are bare.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure it is very hard. The state in which I live has the number of cases an hour away0. Blessings and continuous prayers

Brava Silvia, bel post!!!
What we are doing is a great sacrifice, and a great act of love towards all the weakest people who are not only old people, but also many young immunosuppressed people. Bye
