The Case Against Perfection is a book written by "Harvard Michael J sandel", in this book he explains that: Ethics in the Age of Genetic Engineering, that life is a gift, and that we must accept what is associated with this assistance, work to receive, and solidarity with others from seeking uncontrollable control over humans.
But, the question here, is life really seen as a gift?
We should believe that life is a gift automatically requires responsibility from the recipient of the gift to respond with gratitude, without taking into account the exact nature and characteristics of what has been given and received. A person should live by the saying "Don't look at the prize horse in the mouth" (or you might see lots of rotten teeth). So, to accept the fact that life is a gift, also to accept that someone is obliged to respond in a certain way and without regard to the actual condition of what has been received.
But, what is the gift of life at all? The similarity of alleged life is not inherent in life itself. Something can be given and received without something being a gift. Infectious diseases are given and received, but we don't usually think of illness as a gift. In some cases, some individuals will say that they learned from valuable lessons their struggle with illness. In this case, maybe we can consider illness as a gift. A better term for such an event, however, will be a test.
Tests are given and received, just like a gift. However, the test can be considered fair or unfair, depending on whether the test matches the skill and knowledge level of the person being tested, and whether the test is free of deception or deception. We are not expected to have a social obligation to be grateful for being tested. We are not expected to ignore injustice, bias, or fraud in the test itself. Indeed, we have an obligation to evaluate the reasonableness of testing so that neither we nor other test takers are affected by testing instruments that are unfair, biased, deceptive or incorrect.
Life as we live it now has many undesirable features, such as illness, old age, too short duration, painful death, and other limitations. Representing life as a gift without recognizing this negative attribute is biased to discuss how life can be improved. If life is just a gift, we have to wonder about the motives or competencies of those who choose to give such gifts. If you shop for the perfect gift to give someone you love, would you give them spinal bifida and other illnesses?
Life is not always the same or just a gift. Life is also a test. An important element of this test is how life itself can be improved so that it can reduce suffering, increase capacity, increase ability, and extend the duration of every aspect of life desired. This is a lesson in life. This is how the test is fulfilled. The true gift of life is to make it better than when it was first received.
