I feel a special connection to Sufi poet, Rumi -- perhaps, the same way I did with Nietzsche, many moons ago. Not only do his profound words and lyrical manner of expressing them touch my core, but his temperament seems familiar to me: its many-sidedness, wit, aching vulnerability, alas, his tendency towards prophecy.
So, I felt especially blessed to have a dream about Rumi (my first)! Who knows what dreams mean, perhaps, they are visitations from the other world. At any rate, they are full of symbols and signs and are not to be easily discounted.
This strange and muddled dream with with my spiritual master took place in an intimate setting. I cannot recall what Rumi looked like, only that he spoke of emptying himself of this world - adding that exasperation with his mind had made the task easier...
Looking up dream interpretation, I came across this quote by Rumi:
This place is a dream. Only a sleeper considers it real. Then death comes like dawn, and you wake up laughing at what you thought was your grief.
Try as hard as I might, I can't summon Rumi's face in the dream, but I believe he was dressed in white ankle-length dress (gallabiyya) and seemed younger than I thought.
Also, this is the odd part, we were all lying on a large bed, with him introducing me to his young bride...
Above all, I remember dream-Rumi's self-deprecating, shrugging-laughing confession. Almost to say, he deserves no credit for his Work; exasperation with the mind did it all.
Not entirely sure what it all means, but quietly grateful to receive this vision and meditate upon it ...
