Hi everyone. How you all doing? I'm excited to be a part of this contest again. I particularly do not have ONE place that takes my number one spot as the most exciting place I've been to in Uganda. But I will say, that I am a travelholic.

I can't even remember how many times I have asked @hillaryonbless to hook up with me so I can go with him on his breathtaking escapades

I always find his photos intriguing and exciting. I always see how they climb mountains, I always see how he's traveling to Crater lakes and all the natural environment going on around him. Oh,

  • I am jealous of his eyes, for they see all this beauty.
  • Iam jealous of his legs, they know how it feels to put in all the effort and to get to paradise!

(My jealous face 😊😊😊😊)

I must state that until this contest, I hadn't realized how much I was missing by being very busy with other responsibilities and not giving myself time to explore. I have not travelled as much as I would want to, but this is like a wake up call!

  • @yohan would you please organize a fun travel get away for Steemians In Uganda. It would be fun!

I really need to travel and find the place that I call my home away from home. One of the most exciting places I've been to is amabeere ga nyina mwiiru in Fort Portal.

The waterfalls, the caves and the crater lake around the area make it an ideal attraction. I think it was by far a very exciting experience for me because I went there with my dad and our whole family. It was our last adventure before my dad passed away.

This is the story behind this place.

Amabere ga NyinaMwiru is a cultural site with remarkable history located in western Uganda in Fort portal town.

It is located near Nyakasura School a few kilometers out of Fort portal town. This is home to a very rich cultural history attached to these rocks which form scenic caves with streams of water above them causing refreshing waterfalls for those who visit.

The Batoro ( the tribe located in this area) have a strong belief attached to these caves with an interesting myth told through the generations about them. The caves were named after King Bukuku’s daughter named Nyinamwiru, loosely translated ‘Amabere Ga Nyinamwiru’ would be ‘Breasts of Nyinamwiru’. King Bukuku was one of the ancient Kings of the Batembuzi Dynasty that ruled that time and were believed to be demi-gods by their subjects, often disappearing to the under ground at given times. The princess was a beautiful young lady who had a strong personality. She refused to marry the man her father the King had chosen for her as was the custom in the day preferring to choose her own spouse.

This greatly infuriated the King and his subjects who could not understand how anyone could disobey the King. The King then ordered that her breasts be cut off because of her disobedience, this would then ensure that she would never get married to whoever she would choose and never be able to nurse children. It is strongly believed that the scenic rocks in this location are her breasts oozing milk since that day.

This place is unforgettable and is the ideal getaway for honeymoon makers. The customer care is exceptional, the environment is to die for and I know a bit of rutooro, having lived in Fort Portal for close to two years when my father was still the Principal for UTC Kichwamba, so for me it's tik!

For this contest however, I will suggest another place that is both exciting and memorable that I have been to in Uganda. Its not the beautiful kalangala beach or the Nile bridge or 'Gipilli and Labongo' bridge in Nebi.

Nor is it Nabugabo or Mutukula or Kisoro, or Bushenyi.

It is my home village in Kashaari, Western Uganda(Orurembo, Kyandahi).

I grew up from this place and I moved to kampala when I was about 6 years old.

Growing up in this village was the most exciting and memorable bit of my life so far because;

  • we used to swim in the rivers,
  • we used to climb up to green ranges of the Isingiro mountains and
  • my brothers and I would race each other across the planes to go and sell milk or attend school.

It has been the most fabulous place since I felt like I was in the clouds. I would give anything to feel it again, even for one minute.

Today, every time I go back to my village I can almost feel the laughter and the memories in the cool air above what used to be our house. I can't help but wonder whether it was worth moving from this place to grow up in Kyambogo, Kampala. I would have chosen to stay, had I been consulted!

Even though city life is dope and hyper, my spirit is of a village belle. A rural setting is what I decifer as peaceful and calm. There are no complexities of artificial foods, artificial neighbors, artificial love and artificial demands of keeping up appearances.

Yeah, for me it wasn't the ice cream lol. It's the kalo and eshabwe and shwiiga.

Screenshot_20210710-203659.png

It wasn't the iphones and snapchat technologies. It wasn't the uptown touch or Govnor and Ange-mystic disco's. It was the raw love, the raw environment, the raw knowledge, the unity of extended families in this place and my young aspirations.

Forever this will remain my most exciting place in Uganda.

Thank you @yohan2on. Waiting for @faithilyn, @allenjovia, @brendakim, @vianneyspirit, @ashylovix, @moureenbronia, and @hillaryonbless.

I didn't know that yo from Western ug😃lol😍me too. #am a proud mukiga from Nyakishenyi.
Wen u talk about the artifical complexities of urban life.. I totally get it. Too bad that it has to be like tat.
Lovely share tho. It's good to know tat there are still people like u who still have deep-rooted love for their original homes.

You get me girl!

@amazing-grace nice post, I wish we could organize and have a fam trip. I absolutely recommend that. Hope any time I shall take you to those mountains and feel the real Uganda. It is indeed the Pearl

Wow! Can't wait!

Yes!Surely we need this get away, far from the madding crowd!

Yes girl, we definitely do.

Your village is beautiful! Some of us our villages have become so urban!!!!

Haha, yeah. Its still home to you and that is what matters.

Sorry about your Dad’s passing. Kashaari sounds like an interesting place and you know what they.....home is where your heart is.

Aww! Thanks dear, i still miss him like crazy and yeah, kashaari is interesting, but its also changing. A lot is not the same anymore. Indeed home is where your heart is, thank you.

He will always be with you. True, a lot is changing everywhere.

You have reminded me of the trip I had a long time ago while in Form-5. We went for a Geography trip to Amabere ga nyina Mwiru. We had a nice time there.

I like your passion for travelling. It's indeed good to adventure new places and our Country is richly endowed with plenty of exciting places that can be great tourism destinations.

You are the second person to share with me the idea of having Steem family tours. We shall indeed organise one in the nearby future probably before the end of this year after the lifting of the lockdown.

Haha...Kalo and Eshabwe. I am also a big fan of such a type of food. Kalo is our staple food.

Thanks for taking part in the contest. I wish you all the best.

Thank you, looking forward to the trip!
