ENaira is an attempt by the Central Bank of Nigeria to stay with other major banks around the world as low-cost savings and payment systems are becoming increasingly common, ”said Samuel Sule, director of investment bank Renaissance Capital.

ENaira, which aims to replenish virtual Naira instead of replacing it, "will make financial transactions easier and seamless for all sectors of society," CBN said in a statement sent by email on Saturday, according to the report.
The launch was originally scheduled for Oct. 1 to Oct. 4 but it was delayed due to compliance with the 61st anniversary of Nigeria’s independence in Oct. 1.

Nigerian financial officials have struggled with the growing use of cryptocurrency in the country. Nigeria banned crypto transactions within the banking industry in February and four months later announced plans to launch eNaira.
ENaira will be accompanied by a CBN-approved wallet that users can link to their bank accounts or pay as they go with the prepaid option, according to the CBN website.
