INTRODUCTION

This is going to be one of those short posts, in which I would like to learn your opinion on a particular topic. And this topic will be strictly related to my previous publication: SUPERBOWL - buy a rumour and sell the news. Is this what's driving BITCOIN PRICE?.

Many of you are already aware that a few days ago "the super bowl" took place and an enormous audience across the globe has been watching it. So far it seems that this event is one of the biggest I've ever witnessed and companies advertising themselves during that show always enjoy enormous exposure.

This year alone, few crypto companies decided to invest quite a large budget into advertising their services during "the super bowl". And one major one is no other than COINBASE.

WAS COINBASE ADVERTISEMENT a major success or failure?

line2.png

I must admit, whoever came up with an idea for Coinbase ad had some "balls". It's simple, straight forward and it could easily backfire. But instead, it drove millions of leads and a rapid spike of traffic CRASHED coinbase website.

During the 60 seconds ad - we could see QR code has been floating back and forth on the black screen. Nothing else had happened. And it's worth mentioning that each second is a cost of apparently $160-180k. Which is quite massive.

Let's not really talk about advertisement alone. I would rather focus on results of it: website crashing caused by rapidly increase traffic.

Would you consider it to be a FAILURE or POSITIVE outcome ? And regardles on your opinion - please share with me reasons for you to think one way or another. I'm very curious.

Greetings @crypto.piotr ❤️💕

I actually heard about the crash that happened on Coinbase website due to the massive traffic generated as a result of their advert.

From my point of view, I think the ads was a success and also a failure at the same time. It was a success because the ads was able to catch the attention of lot of users, thus it helped Coinbase in generating more users or traffic on their website. This is really what we need to increase crypto adoption across the globe and I'm very sure that we can really achieve this through adverts.

The reason I also believe it's a failure is because the team or Devs failed to play their part by not expanding or working more efficiently on their database and back end features. The fact is that there are over millions of users accessing Facebook daily and why should Coinbase website crash down as a result of traffic generated from the ads? I think the team should work more on their database and back end features.

Thanks for sharing this great post with love from @hardaeborla and I hope you have a great day ahead ❤️💕❤️

From my point of view, I think the ads was a success and also a failure at the same time.

Interesting point of view @hardaeborla :)

Thanks for sharing it with me.

Greetings friend @crypto.piotr, personally I consider that what Coinbase did by promoting its exchange in the Superbowl was a great success, this because this sports show is watched by millions of people in the world and if we add to that the increasing number of people who use cryptocurrencies without any doubt that Coinbase will increase its number of users, something quite positive.

hello @crypto.piotr,
I saw the coinbase advert and it reminds me of the intro of the Atari games. I guess the advertisers tried to play with the memories of many people, to whom that intro brings back good memories.

From my point of view the ad was very good because it fulfilled its function of attracting a lot of traffic to the website, on the other hand the fact that the website is not prepared for the success of the ad, generates mistrust.

I mean the people who developed the commercial knew what they were doing, while the developers of the platform did a horrible job. looking for information on what happened I couldn't believe the amount of horrible comments about the platform.

It's amazing how in the same day you can experience success and failure at the same time, I hope they manage to correct the problems they are facing.

From my point of view, I think the ads was a success and also a failure at the same time.

Indeed. It did looks like an intro from Atari! :) I didn't think about it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me @trabajosdelsiglo

looking for information on what happened I couldn't believe the amount of horrible comments about the platform.

Were there any horrible comments online about what had happened?

I would dare to think that this advertising strategy of Coinbase was positive, getting to collapse a website with the increase in visits is not something that happens every day and not in many websites that we say, I think they knew that this would happen

sorex i.o will provide many smart features that are unprecedented in the industry. for details visit the link https://sorex.io/

hi @entub3

how is your comment related to my post?

@crypto.piotr as per my thinking that was a very good advertisement as per my thinking and views. The reason is that.

They have grap much attention in the crypto field with that ads million of new people just visited their website that make it crash for a while but this will be a very positive move as they I'll capture all the information and if 1% also become their customers they have gain a lot of customer base.

They will definitely genrate a good revenue from that ads. Lastly it's a wise decision they have taken to introduce crypto.

Hi @crypto.piotr
I had no idea that every second of promotion at this event was.so expensive, I start by saying that. You mean they invested a few million in 60 seconds.
If the system collapsed with a massive influx of "potential customers", it also shows that they are not prepared at system level for such amount of users.
It also means that their customer service system would not be prepared to deal with a wave of complaints in case this happened (this last one is speculation), but I can deduce from that failure.
No doubt that being exposed in an event of millions of people can be a plus, it could be said that it was a success.

I had no idea that every second of promotion at this event was.so expensive, I start by saying that. You mean they invested a few million in 60 seconds.

Indeed. It cost them tons of money.

Greetings @crypto.piotr,
My point of view is that it was a great success for the company itsself. According to some articles the Coinbase App jumped to number 2 into App Store and into first place among finance applications. Also being in the news like this most certainly will drive some traffic to their app as well.

That being said, I am almost entirley sure that not all of these users that downloaded the app were "new crypto users" meaning that all of these downloads might be leading to wrong conclusions. I would not call it a failure for the crypto community but it was certainly not a success in a broad general view.

I think this is a great discussion topic you chose there. I am very interested on what other members of the community have to share! :)

I always like to read your comments @ga38jem :)

Thanks for sharing your toughts with me again.

Hi @crypto.piotr

It is hard for me to think that something like this, i.e. a 60 second advertisement can crash a platform like Coinbase, no doubt this is something unprecedented and probably positive for the future of Coinbase, since from my perspective it now has more exposure and therefore it is to intuit that this will somehow attract more users interested in using the services of this cryptocurrency exchange platform.

Best regards, be well.

This reminds me of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) championship that just ended a few days back, Binance was a major sponsor of the event and had their adverts flying over the competition from the start of the competition. To think that they spent massive millions for the advert and sponsorship means that they expect something huge in return, just the way Coinbase did.

Well, I think that the advert was worth it because it granted them global audience to proliferate their brands to millions of people. More so, in my opinion, this is what we need for global adoption of cryptocurrency. So for big brands to spend "heavily" on advertising in major sporting competitions is a welcome development for me. My thoughts though.

Thanks for sharing this amazing piece buddy

I'd call it a success simply because the aim of an advertisement is to create awareness firstly. Too bad it crashed the website. The website is an easy fix. Bottom line - mass awareness was definitely achieved.

Hello dear friend. For me the announcement was a success, perhaps bigger than they themselves imagined and that is why the platform collapsed, but was back online in a short time, no doubt aroused great interest in the public who witnessed it, with a very simple production for the ads that we are used to seeing in this type of event, and if it attracted so much traffic surely there will be many interested in staying on the platform.

The retro nostalgic music with the QRCode will definitely spark curiosity. Moreover, coinbase is now "regulated" where the main institutions are favoring, thus this is pretty much a success indeed.
The rest of the superbowl ads are very "typical" American.

Hi @dses

Didn't hear from you in a while. Glad to know you're still around.

The retro nostalgic music with the QRCode will definitely spark curiosity.

Hard not to agree. I did feel somehow a bit nostaligic while watching this ad and I bet many people my age would feel the same way :)

Take care of yourself :)

Greetings @ crypto.piotr
What happened in the Superbowl has a lot of fabric to cut. The unexpected way of Coinbase's announcement is to be admired, I think very good, this helped them to grow in followers, more than they expected I would say, because of the congested traffic on the web.
But I think they did not capitalize everything, because of the technical problems, as the stock market had reactions and their shares fell 1.7% in the premarket this Monday.
I think that in the future we will see again this kind of advertising strategies and companies will take into account many more aspects to avoid going through the same thing.

Big thx for sharing your view with me @dgalan

However, Im not sure what you wanted to say by "What happened in the Superbowl has a lot of fabric to cut."

This means there will be a lot of good and bad news coming out of the Super Bowl event. I hope I have cleared up the doubt

Greetings dear friend @crypto.piort, certainly the move was risky by the amount of money they invested in advertising, but marketing has become fundamental in recent years, even the smallest business is interested in advertising.

In the case of cryptos I have noticed that the media generates a lot of phomo or fear to miss something, which often makes grow a project that does not have good bases, Therefore, some scams are also generated because so much publicity is created that people are encouraged to invest and do not review the background of the project.

In the case of coinbase which is a well recognized project by them, they risked and achieved the goal of attracting new investors, until then friend, you have an excellent weekend.

In the case of cryptos I have noticed that the media generates a lot of phomo or fear to miss something

What is "phomo" @amestyj? Did you mean "FOMO"?

Greetings dear friend, yes I meant "FOMO", thank you for the correction !

Well, since Coinbase had to throttle their web traffic, it was probably a decent success for them. But I would be damned if I scan a QR code simply because it was advertised on TV. I don't like ads anyway, because ads are only interested in one thing; taking money out of your pocket and putting it in theirs.

That said, I'm glad Coinbase did it, because the more people that adopt crypto, the better.

Im glad to see your comment. Thanks for dropping by @fijimermaid

I've been lately wondering if you gaved up already on Steemit since your last post is 2 weeks old. Glad to know you're still around :)

Greetings @crypto.piotr,

Another wonderful publication from your side 😊

I think Coinbase is one of the big winners of super bowl LVI, Super Bowl ads are incredibly expensive, Coinbase has reportedly paid $14 million for its slot. And their Ad is so brilliant that became very popular quickly unlike other expensive ads.

It was so successful that it crashed their application and site both : )

Considering these points I can say the response has been very positive for them,

other than advertisement every new Coinbase user signing up for an account will get $15 in bitcoin. Moreover, all customers have a chance at winning prizes in a giveaway worth $3 million. Their marketing strategy is good so far.

Best wishes 😊

Hi @winy

Another wonderful publication from your side

Your parents raised you very well. You always are so kind with your comments :)

It seem that most people share your view, that Coinbase did well with their advertisement.

Your parents raised you very well. You always are so kind with your comments :)

Thank you 😊

Hello friend @crypto.piotr.

From my perspective perhaps it would have had a greater impact if we had been living another historical moment in which there was a rise in the price of cryptocurrencies, although if we take into account that in one way or another there is always talk of cryptocurrencies, I in particular would not have spent all that money on advertising at a time when there is uncertainty about the FED announcements for March and the active conflict between Ukraine and Russia that is affecting the price of cryptocurrencies.

Greetings my friend and thanks for motivating us all to give our opinion on this matter.

Based on my point of view super bowl was a success the goal was to increase crypto adoption which was achieved millions of users across the world were attracted by the ads that caused coinbase exchange crash due to high traffic.

I'll say that the advertisement was a success - because it brought the traffic to the website. But unfortunately, they probably were not expecting that much effect. The aim of an advert of that scale is to create massive awareness. And by the crash of the site, it proves that the advert did what it was meant to do - awareness created.

I would call it a success. It drove 25 million hits... and that's pretty significant. What's interesting to me is that most of the nay-sayers and skeptics are already crypto users, so they weren't really the target.

The ad was actually pretty clever, with the QR code emulating the earliest VGA screen savers from the 1990s. But over the course of the 60 seconds, the backing music evolved from primitive early "midi" style of old computers to current techno/trance, subtly planting the idea of "moving with the times, to NOW."

So yes, I'd say a success. even if just 1% of those hits turn into trading customers, the ad (which cost $6m, I believe) will more than pay for itself in trading fees.

hi @denmarkguy

Thanks for sharing your view on that particular topic. It seem that most people consider it to be a success.

You've also mentioned music in the background. I must admit that I didn't pay attention to it in the first place, but yeah .... definetly they made me feel like I'm watching screen saver from the 1990s :)

Cheers buddy,
Piotr

Greetings friend @crypto.piotr.

I think that showing up at an event as seen as the Super Bowl in terms of advertising was a success since the intention of any company is always to make itself known and verify its installed capacity to improve in case of a possible collapse, which happened, you learn from everything to improve.

Huge success. Why? Two main reasons.

  • First, it's a take on the old DVD screensaver so it connects with old timers. Coinbase will succeed in educating this market more so than a younger one after pure DEXs.
  • Second, crypto is about action. This commercial calls to action and does so 'in action' by forcing users to chase the QR. Crypto is about promoting energy and this is achieved as well.

Note: The CNN link presents a critic who says Coinbase should have spent the money on its servers. No way! Servers will continue to be supplanted by decentralized tech. :)

Big thx for sharing your view with me Marco

I always enjoy reading your comments :)

Hello friend @crypto.piotr.
I think we can see the degree of success of the ad in two ways, on the one hand from an advertising point of view the ad generated a lot of buzz on TV and social media, which transformed into more exposure and user traffic to your platform; and at the same time the ad revealed that you were not prepared for such a high user traffic, so this is a technical failure

Personally, I'd say it's a bit of both. It was a successful exposure but a failure in terms of conversion. Imagine paying that much for an advert just to end up blowing it up, ridiculous. But regardless, more people know about them now.

Well..if I was a new user of Coinbase and saw the site down the first time I try to use it, well then it might not be a good start for me. I think they should have improved their servers before starting such very bold marketing venture
That said, we cannot deny that COINBASE has managed to attract huge numbers of people in a way they didn't even expect. I happen to believe it was generally a successful campaign, though it didn't seem to prompt recovery in the bearish markets
Anyhow, Only time will tell how such significant US consumer exposure to crypto will have a long-term impact on the markets

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have a nice weekend.

Based on the feedback and reviews, i think it was a success.

The simplicity and playful style of the ad rose a lot of curiosity which skyrocketed the take actions from millions of people.

In my opinion, it was really creative and the idea behind the ad was effective which is key.

60 second ad crash the big platform like coinbase is not a good sign. So you can take it as a failure and success too. Pltform failure and other side more traffic is success. Beautiful publication.

Hello @crypto.piotr ,
Nowdays people spend Millions of $ on a billboard at newyork time square Where there is a limited audience to see the ad. On comparison a billboard with an digital audience watching the Superbowl I think of it as insane value ...heres my evaluation.
Lets keep it in therms of investment
✓Good investment
It would be an good investment it got a lot of new customers ( where now coinbase could earn millions from trading fee itself). This would be a big win ,new customers + more people are aware of coinbase now.
✓ Bad investment
This means it was failure and they could not retrive what they invested .But it's actually a success in disguise because most of crypto in my perspective works on hype And coinbase probably got a lot of attraction . As you mentioned the website crashed due to a rapid increase in traffic which is possible only if the developers weren't expecting such an overload on the servers, Which means it blew way hugher than what they expected .
These are my thoughts/theory on the above topic :^)

Big thx for sharing your view with me @the-prithvi

It seem that most people share your view

Dear @crypto.piotr I think it will have a positive impact in a short as well as long run on the future of the coinbase and its share in the market. Overall, it will also boost cryptocurrencies.

It is a huge success as regicnition of Coinbase increased dramatically.

International Mother Language Day, 21 February 2022.

@mrnazrul From Bangladesh.

In my opinion, the man who came up with this ad is a real genius. In fact, this ad is ingenious. It interested the audience, because everyone wanted to know what will happen when they scan the code. Also, this ad automatically selects the target audience, ie people who understand digital devices. And lastly, all those who were interested, went directly to the site of the cryptocurrency exchange. No other television ad is capable of this.

Im glad to see your comment. Thanks for dropping by @o1eh

In my opinion, the man who came up with this ad is a real genius

Surely those who are behind this ad must be experienced in what they do. And definetly they had some "balls" to even suggest such an advertisement (knowing at the same time how costly it will be to display it for 60 seconds).

Hi dear friend

I consider it positive, there is a current that claims that there is no bad publicity, the important thing is that they were made known to many potential clients, it is true that it could have been better but it is a good attempt and a good start for many in the world of cryptocurrencies

god bless you

I will call it a success because the site crashed and what majorly causes a big site like Coinbase to crash, is when there is too much traffic, meaning, the Ad, brought in massive new people, and the traffic was way too much and the site crashed. To me, the Ad was a massive success.

Another interesting topic @crypto.piotr

Hello Piotr!

Oh well that was a smart move there, I wonder how many people visited their site at that time that made it crush! But well such a smart way to advertise, I hope that would be bring more positive feedback about crypto. I think it would be something bigger if they include it in world cup in football/soccer, it has 10 times more viewers than superbowl in numbers, also it includes wider part of the world.

Thanks for sharing with us!

at that time that made it crush!

Crush? :) c'mon buddy. Improve your english ahahhahaa

Opsss 😂 that's what I get from making comments at dawn time hahaha

It may have failed from a technical standpoint, but Coinbase still managed to showcase itself at one of the most important events for Americans.

I think its success goes beyond the personal success of the company, the whole cryptocurrency sector benefited from it.

Having space at these events can be interpreted by people who are not familiar with cryptocurrencies and are wary, as a legitimacy.
The power of advertising has no limits..

Im glad to see your comment. Thanks for dropping by @mikitaly

I think its success goes beyond the personal success of the company, the whole cryptocurrency sector benefited from it.

It's hard not to agree, that entire blockchain industry benefited from that particular ad.

I'll consider it both a failure and success - because it did bring the traffic which is a positive thing. But it crashed as a result, meaning that they were not ready for such a traffic - and that could make some people more skeptical about getting really involved. Hence, it's a mix of both some success and failure.

any advertisement that brings people to crypto is a success. however, i think if it was limited to a qr code flashing on tv, then that has limited impact as people will open the link and close it. however, any advertisement is good. marketing always pays off.
