Venezuela Catastrophe - World Trade Under Risk - PANDEMIC

in hive-175254 •  4 years ago

Recently I saw a documentary about the epidemics that have affected humanity in the last century and highlighted the case of the Spanish flu of 1918. This infection in just one year killed between 40 and 100 million people.

Let's clarify some terms:

Endemic: is when a disease affects a country or a certain region on a regular basis or on a usual date. The endemic does not always occur in very serious diseases, since it can become "a common factor of that population because of the genetic or cultural elements that compose it," says a WHO report.

Epidemic: The epidemic occurs when the disease attacks numerous people or a large number of animals from the same place, during the same period of time.

Pandemic: According to WHO: "The worldwide spread of a new disease is called a pandemic."

Then, without a doubt, we are in the presence of a PANDEMIC.

With the effects and advances of globalization, humanity is more prone to the spread of this type of infectious diseases. With intercontinental flights it is very easy to carry a virus or bacteria from one continent to another in a matter of hours.
Especially viruses like coronaviruses that are highly contagious..

Industrial and commercial activity in China will undoubtedly be affected.

One of the measures implemented is quarantine. This has led to turning big cities like Wuhan into ghost towns with desolate streets. There is no commercial activity.

The government is in a particularly difficult situation, since it must decide between maintaining production levels and maintaining demographic levels.

Thanks to its huge trade surplus in recent years, China has become the world's largest exporter and is the second largest importer in the world.
China's main exports include transmission devices for radio-telephony, machines and automatic data processing units, electronic integrated circuits and micro assemblies, electrical appliances for line telephony and spare parts and accessories for machines and vehicles. On the other hand, the country mainly imports electronic integrated circuits and microstructures, petroleum oils, iron ores, gold and motor vehicles.
Its main partners are the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Germany.

All trading partners of China will be hindered their operations.

Is our job depending in any way on Chinese economy and supplies coming from this country? Would we consider our job being threatened?

Not only our work, but rather, our lives.

Venezuela is experiencing a silent "invasion" by China with the consent of the Venezuelan government for more than 15 years.

Venezuelans have witnessed the proliferation of grocery stores and supermarkets throughout the territory. It is the Chinese who own luxurious vehicles and large houses. It is the Chinese who go to the mall centers to spend large sums in exclusive stores.

There are also low-income Chinese.
These are brought as enslaved labor. They travel in ships for hundreds, for thousands. They come to Venezuela undocumented, without any control by the health authorities.
There is a high probability that this virus travels to Venezuela.

The worst of all this is that the Venezuelan health system is in extremely poor conditions.
Diseases such as malaria, measles, diphtheria and yellow fever have reappeared with alarming figures after they have been eradicated.

If the spread of the virus in China has had such high levels despite the extreme measures taken by the authorities, I don't even want to imagine the health chaos that is going to happen in my country.

God protect us.

The Chinese have circulated in Venezuela for many years, we all know about the supply in the corner or the Chinese that sells lumpias on the corner.
The problem of the health infrastructure is terrifying and there is no doubt that quality health equipment in good condition is required to face this problem of the pandemic and the other health problems that have s.
Hopefully with the cooperation of other countries we can face this.

The Chinese have been here for years and will surely continue to be here for many years to come.

The problem is that the virus started to spread in China. And that number of Chinese citizens who came to Venezuela this year, most likely came infected.

I have on several occasions described covid-19 as an epidermic rather than the pandemic that it really is, I appreciate the clarification.
There are so many countries especially African countries that have poor medical facilities and if exposed countries cannot even handle these case, I wonder what our fate is then....

The fate of Humanity at this time is uncertain. There are many expectations regarding treatments and vaccines, but their appearance does not represent the solution to all the consequences that we will experience.

Hello Juan!

I must confess that the title caught my attention and I thought: Another one!!?? Haven't we had enough catastrophes? But I guess it's more of the same.

I wonder if it's God (the universe, nature, or whatever you call it) that makes us fit to endure the things that come our way?

Last year at this time we didn't have the blackout crisis?

By the way, you reminded me of a story I wrote two years ago about this Spanish disease.

https://steemit.com/twentyfourhourshortstory/@jadams2k18/flying-through-time

Stay at home! Use a mask :D

Our catastrophe really has a specific name. But I won't say it here to avoid too much politics.
You know what it is, right?

How could I not know! Of course I do.

;-)

Well, let us hope in God first and in our actions that our country can get through this crisis of the world covid-19 pandemic without further misfortunes. Greetings and thank you for sharing your reflections.

Hi Carlos.
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Hello brother @juanmolina, great post.

Unfortunately, we are facing imminent risk and we know that our health system does not have the capacity to deal with this health crisis if it reaches levels as in other countries.

We continue to pray that the virus does not spread.

God protect us.

Resteemed already. Upvote on the way :)

Thanks PH!

Dear @juanmolina

Spanish flu of 1918. This infection in just one year killed between 40 and 100 million people.
With intercontinental flights it is very easy to carry a virus or bacteria from one continent to another in a matter of hours.

Many people seem to underline that in current days Pandemics can be more deadly, because we travel easier and travel faster. Which is true. However often I'm wondering, if speed of information travelling in curent age isn't our biggest "saviour". Wouldn't you agree?

Anyway let's get back to your main topic. I'm curious how current Pandemic will impact Venezuela and it's goverment. Does Maduro still have financial support coming from China? Are people still going to the streets to protest, or everyone stays home?

Yours, Piotr

Indeed, just as globalization contributed to the rapid spread of the virus, technology should allow rapid eradication of the virus. Many Apps are being developed, the laboratories are working at full speed to produce a vaccine.

  • Financial support from China: More than a year ago, China decided not to give more money to maduro. There are commercial and strategic exchanges, but liquid financial support does not. On the contrary, Venezuela owes more than 15K million USD to China.

  • People do not protest. Anyone who attempts to congregate for any reason is brutally repressed by the National Guard and by government-funded urban paramilitary groups.

This quarantine came "like a ring to the finger" to the government, now social control is greater. They suspended the distribution of gasoline and people cannot move, there is no transportation of raw materials, medicines, food. The consequences will be large.

Dear @juanmolina

Jezz .... crazy shit.

I wanted to ask about your opinion on topic related to C-19.

In Poland our authorities have been discussing some models in order to decide what decisions should be made.

One which I particulary liked:
We're building 2 different groups. Everyone would receive form where he/she need to decide if he/she wants to belong to 1st or 2nd group.

  1. People who are afraid of becoming sick (old, sick, with weak immune system or just simply to scared to take a risk).
All those people will not be allowed to exit house within next 2 months. Full house quarantine. Those people would receive financial support from goverment, would have their taxes reduced etc. Also food would be provided. Their only responsibility is to stay SAFE at home.

  2. Everyone else - can be allowed to go to work, masks still necessary, social distancing still part of daily life. However this would allow economy to go back partly to normal.

It's being pointed out, that treating high-risk people and young and strong ones as one group, with similar restrictions (or lack of those restrictions) is a major mistake.

Also closing down all businesses and supporting financially entire economy is a huge expense. So focusing on giving full support to group 1, and allowing rest population to get back to their life could be cheaper and more efficient.

I wonder what's your opinion
Yours, Piotr

Wonderful!
It is very nice to know how the Polish government consults the opinion of its citizens instead of imposing authoritarian measures.

Regarding the reincorporation to productive life: Governments are concerned about the fall of the economy, but it would be a mistake to take a measure that reactivates the transmission of the virus by making the mobility of the population more flexible.

It is a difficult decision about a situation for which there is no historical precedent.

Sorry for such a late reply. I only had a chance to read your comment a moment ago

Thx for your comment. I love to see how responsive you are :))

Hi dear friend!
Thanks for stopping by.

With the economic crash and the sudden fall in oil yesterday, i really have concerns for third world countries and how their citizens will survive through this periods.

Above all, Venezuela, which with an irresponsible administration does not have economic reserves, the productive apparatus is stagnant, there is no national production and we only depend on imports.
