3 ways to Motivate an employee

Working under a boss for the past three years has given me more practical insight into why staff quickly tire of working for someone. After the experience (Working for a boss), some start their own business based on the knowledge and skills amassed while working. Working for someone gives practical insight into how you could handle your business and maybe do better in areas you feel your boss could have handled well.

Anyways, this post is not about why you should work under someone. It is about how to motivate your staff for them to be more productive. Motivated staff will give more to the organisation they work for, but unmotivated staff will just work for the money and get out of the organisation when better opportunities arise. The critical factor to staff retention is staff motivation, and the following ways can be used to motivate staff.

1. Give Bonuses: Nothing makes a staff much happier than the extra money given to them. Gifting staff, extra money for a job weldone will make them want to work harder. Giving bonus for completing a task or attaining a milestone will give staff an urge to be productive and also put in their best work.

2. Train your staff: Staff are motivated through different means. A staff might be happy to just get bonus while for some staff, it is advance in knowledge. When you train staff, they will have something to look out for. What keep some staff motivated is the added knowledge they get while discharging their duty and training them is just a way to keep them happy.

3. Go for team bonding: Their is no better way to motivate staff than taking time off work to get to know them and uplift staff spirits . Team bonding provides an avenue for your staff to review their inner most desires and also bond with other colleagues. This in a way motivate staff as they could get a time out from work and their boss would actually listen to them during this day.
