In this era of social networking site or apps, everyone is trying to be top of another. The competition is not only among the user base but also among the top companies as well who is handling these platform.
I belive many would not be aware of the ongoing war in India between YouTube and Tik-Tok. The two social media platform giant allowing users to showcase their talent through Video Sharing. While YouTube is already in line of fire for banning many users due to their strict guidelines, Tik-Tok is also facing wrath for its irrelevant content. Now both of them are facing each other in dramatic turn of event. The feud has reached to a new peak, that netizens have managed to bring down TikTok ratings to a staggering 1.3 stars from 4.8 on the Google Play Store. Not only ratings thereafter the hashtags #bantiktok, #tiktokbaninIndia and many more such hashtags started trending on Twitter. Sending out a clear message to Chinese social platform giant.
This is not the first time Tik-Tok facing the backlashes in India. There is already ban in place for its uses. It has been taken down in several states across the country as it was found promoting offensive and derogatory content on its platform.
How it all started ??
The credit for seemingly never ending war between the two video sharing social platform started with a controversial video "YouTube Vs Tik-Tok" uploaded by a famous youtuber CarryMinnati.
In the video CarryMinnati was seen roasting popular Tik-Tok user Amir Siddiqui. The YouTuber's roasting TikTok stars and vice versa is not a new phenomenon, it's been happening for quite some time now. However this time it took an ugly turn.
The uploaded video garnered over 70 million views within a week before being taken down by YouTube on May 14 on claims of 'violating terms of service'. The video also helped the YouTuber gain around 8 million new subscribers.
Having a strong fanbase, and as it happen with social network sites, CarryMinati's fan brigade took upon the TikTok app listing on the play store to give one-star reviews to show their dislike for the platform and support for YouTube and its creators.
And the war goes on..
The storm of the controversial video was in peak and not calming down. The fever was very high and Tik-Tok get into another problem. This time the situation was further escalated when Tik-Tok user Faizal Siddiqui posted a video endorsing acid attacks. This brought a new level of hatedness for Tik-Tok.
TikTok found itself in a soup with a brand new controversy. The video, now viral on all social media platforms, has been called out for glorifying acid attacks on women. further pushed people to underrate the app both on play store and Apple's App Store.
The video did calls for many criticism from all over the place and from different people, including celebrities, politicians, and National Commission for Women etc, forcing Tiktok to suspend the creator's account and remove the copies of the video from its platform
Who got the Cake ??
As the fued is already high, it is very difficult to ascertain the actual gain. YouTube who always against the Freedom of Speach manage to get a good viewership through the roasting video, however deleting content of a famous youtuber may risk his future viewership.
On the hand Tik-Tok seems to be higher risk of loosing all its credibility.
Anyhow, as it said, someone's gain is other loss but seems thee famous fued has open new gate of fanbase for CarryMinati and Amir Siddqui.
Stay Home....Stay Safe !!
Namaste @steemflow
Hmmm... This raises mixed feelings within me!
Firstly anybody endorsing or promoting actions as vile as acid attacks needs to be removed from any platform as this is simply unacceptable behavior in any walk of life, on any platform or anywhere on the planet. I have not watched the video as of yet so feel unable to comment on it with any authority, I am wondering if it was a sick-joke, if that is the case maybe the situation would be slightly different.
HOWEVER I do not believe a company should have it's products, platforms or services downrated in retaliation, ratings systems exist in order to give people a fair and balanced view if it is something they would b interested in purchasing or using and after all one users experience and opinion may vary wildy to anothers.
Again, I don't believe a company should be held responsible for the views of one user no matter how ugly or unpalatable they are. The company however, SHOULD act quickly as soon as they are made aware of such matters remove the offending video/post/article, stating clearly on the page that they absolutely do not condone or find acceptable the sharing of such views on it's platform.
There is one other factor I feel should be mentioned, now that we have truly global platforms there are many cultural views that may not be compatible, what is normal and acceptable in one country may be seen as hugely disrespectful in another, we must be a little more sensitive to the views of others and exhibit more empathy when creating content for a truly global community.
The bigger problem with any social media or social sharing platform around today is that usually the social part is not really present, people throw their content at the world and expect the world to like, up-rate, up-vote or share it without truly engaging with the people who share their thoughts about it. Even worse is the huge amount of 'trolls' who exist only to provoke conflict and engage in mud-slinging matches as it makes them feel mighty.
I was only vaguely aware of this controversy, thankYOU for bringing a little clarity to me regarding the details, take great care and keep smiling :)
