Safety first : The importance of safety in business

in hive-175254 •  4 years ago

Day in day out I have seen people set up business especially those residing in developing countries without considering the aspect of safety. They over look this aspect because they keep thinking it is not important or because they are seeing that they are not the only one not taking it very serious. At times I want to blame them but when I think about some certain things I begin to see that there is no need blaming them, we should hold the government accountable for that as they have failed woefully in the aspect of enlightening the general public.

Because others are not doing it doesn't mean that you should follow suit. We should not be ignorant when it comes to our own safety. Take for instant, will you do bad just because others are doing back, or will you kill somebody just because others are doing it? The answer is definitely No. This shows that some blames should be channelled to us too. The people I don't blame here are the people that are not educated, I take it that they are lacking some certain things that is why they never knew safety is very vital when it comes to life and business altogether.

Before I digress more, permit me to enlighten you on what is safety. Safety can be defined as the act of being safe from disaster or it can also be seen as the act of being free from danger. We have different type of safety which include: physical, chemical, ergonomic, biological etc. The above points out to fire safety, chemical safety, industrial safety etc. For the sake of this post I will be talking on Fire safety alone. This now brings us to the question, what is fire safety?

What is fire safety?

Fire safety can be defined as the act or the process/measures that is being put in place to prevent any thing that will cause or result to fire. Take note and know that for fire to take place three component must be present. They include fuel, oxygen and heat. If the two are not complete or present, there is no way fire can arose. We call the three processes the fire triangle. The fuel I am talking about can be wood, books and any other materials that can burn. I keep wondering why some person's are getting it wrong, Immediately you mention fuel they will refer it to diesel and crude oil only. Should in case you don't know, this, decode and knows that any free burning materials are called fuel.

Oxygen on the other hand is the chemical element that we take in and it is denoted by letter O. If this is not present they can't be any fire disaster. The oxygen I am talking about here is simply the air we take in. Heat on the otherhand is simply high temperature. Once Temperature is high and there is fuel and heat to aid burning, it will lead to fire outbreak. With all this being said how do we apply safety in our business. It is quiet simple. All you have to do is to make sure that you have the fire service emergency number and also have your extinguisher in place. The extinguisher is your first. The moment there is fire you are to use your fire extinguisher to combat it at first. While fighting the fire with fire extinguisher, if you noticed that the fire is still escalating you are to make sure you call the fire emergency line for their support. With this two ways/method in place, it shows that you have seen safety as being important and deep along the line if there is fire outbreak you can easy control it before the fire team will get there.

Conclusion

I will end the post here. I hope you guys learnt a lot from it. The bottom line is that safety is very important and we should not in any way pretend that it is not important. If we fail to make our environment or business safe, when the disaster comes we will regret it. While regretting we didn't take safety very serious by that time it will be too late to cry. Remember the popular saying, it is oo late to cry when the head is cut off.

Hello @tfame3865!
Safety is paramount and as you say it is often not given the importance it deserves, both the employer and the employee must ensure that the rules are followed and the proper equipment and training is in place. Greetings!

Industrial safety is a subject that has always caught my attention and this series that you do on safety of all types seems to me to be a valuable contribution to those who are just starting in this adventure.
thank you

I am really glad for the comment @joseph1956

Certainly we can see many personal ventures where safety is something little taken into account, in my city I have seen construction sites where you can clearly see crews of workers without personal protective equipment, even in clothing or food stores are not marked escape routes, which suggests that they do not have protocols for emergencies, as you say, the fault is the authorities who do not ensure attention to these aspects.

@tipu curate

Safety should be provided for every worker if they belong to government or company, and if it's a personal business then I believe anyone considers having their own business shall make their safety and others working with them a priority.

Being safe always, even if the chance of a disaster or a mistake happens is low, is way better and something won't be regretted than taking the risk in any situation.

Thanks for sharing.

Hello @tfame3865 I agree with you, safety is a very important issue for everyone, it is also our responsibility to work in safe environments in this way we raise awareness and force those who manage to pay due attention to safety...greetings!
