The title sentence is not my own sentence. It belongs to a scientist. In fact, the word 'scientist' is very simplistic when used to describe him. Because this person, whose name has been heard in many branches of science, is still a living legend in the scientific world. I can list some of his areas of expertise: linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, social critic, and political activist. His ideas, life, and writings are so widely accepted that he has been named the most cited living person in the world. His name is Noam Chomsky.
About ten years ago, while I was preparing for exams related to my profession in my country, I heard the name of Noam Chomsky for the first time in the theories he developed in linguistics. The owners and creators of the theories and ideas I heard about human development were long gone. Noam Chomsky was still alive. This got me a little excited. Think about it, a living legend that entered the books in your own era, in your own time period, was still alive. My interest in Noam Chomsky increased even more when I heard that he did not only research language theories, but also had a say in many other fields of science. For this reason, I did a little research and even bought some of his books and read them.
I will not recommend Noam Chomsky to you in this article. I'm not going to say buy and read Noam Chomsky's books. Do your own research and decide for yourself which author or book you will read.
I chose one of the many words of this old man that affected people as a title. This saying is
'We should be looking for good ideas, not heroes.' Noam Chomsky
Scientists who have contributed to the science of human development have generally tried to reveal the good aspects of humanity. If the good deeds are done depending on a person - we can call them heroes in the eyes of the society - what will happen to the people in need of kindness when this person is unable to do good? Let me tell you what happens, that good deed will not be done because that hero is no longer available, he is gone. Development quests should not be indexed to heroes. Duties of good should not depend on one person. When we look at the countries or communities that have already been exploited, there are one or two heroes in their hundred-year history, and the country or community reached the level of prosperity during the time of those heroes. In the absence of heroes, countries or communities regressed.
In order that all this does not happen, countries should invest in ideas and systems that produce goodness, not heroes, in order for good deeds to continue. Ideas and systems that generate good continue to work and spread goodness even if good people die. Thus, it may be easier to reach the final goal. Otherwise, humanity will never be able to achieve a general ascension.
