The beach starts to narrow down the closer you get to the Inlet rock jetties. The ocean has removed a great amount of sand and also washed away the protecting dunes just west of the jetty.

Army corp of engineering is getting ready to replenish the beach sand there by dredging sand from the bay. There are restaurants and a deep sea ocean fishing fleet where the damage has accrued.

It takes years and even centuries to build up the dunes protecting the barrier beaches and but one storm to make swiss cheese of them.

You can see layers in the dune like tree rings ...

It amazes me the damage that water and wind can do to the land. Glad to hear they will try to build it up again. ♥

Nature can be destructive but no match for a vindictive woman ...... 🤔

Yeah, I would have to say that is right up there.

Oh wow what a great beach - so worth protecting. Some trees and vetiver grass planted along the dunes would help too against storm damage/ erosion like this.

Good points @sallybeth23

I love exploring beaches - this is awesome but shame what the storm did! ❤️🙏

Nature does what it wants, we're just here for the ride :-)

Beautiful! Oh! I need some sand on my garden! Send me a bucket!
