It's been a few months since the last time I did a Retro Review and it's not that I have forgotten, it's been a long time since I just relax and watch a series or movie (which I also did their respective post); but I also wanted to change the theme of my post, at least momentarily, because today the video game reviews are back and this time is about a game that impressively was initiated its development in the 90s, however by fate this game was never finished until just a few years ago. 15 years after the beginning of the development of this video game, exactly in the year 2013 this video game finally came to light. What initially would be a game that would be released in the 90's for Super Nintendo, just finished its development in 2013 and that will be the game I'll talk about today, a fairly basic platform game in general terms, but with enough charisma and entertainment.
As a good game of the platform genre of the 90's, your argument is simple, it is basically "Good vs Evil". This story focuses on the villain of this video game, known as "Tyrant" through dark magic has found a way to enter the dreams of people, especially in the dreams of children, which causes nightmares and all kinds of terror, only for personal pleasure. However, as always happens in video games, a "hero" or in this case "heroes" appear, who are going to confront him to stop him and defeat him once and for all, these heroes are: Flynn and Floyd, two elves similar to the "Leprechaun", from that old horror and comedy movie, who, using their magic powers will save everyone.
Graphically it is a quite outstanding game, with many dark colors and quite detailed backgrounds, as well as its scenarios, this is a game that stands out a lot on screen. The game has a variety of animations in the backgrounds of the scenarios so it gives a fairly successful visual depth.
The visual effects such as the attacks that our main character or some enemies can perform are quite good, particles and certain aspects with lights achieve an adequate decorative set for a game where magic is the main theme of the story.
The sprites of the characters have a large size and a pretty good set of animations. The character design has enough details and decorations (especially in our main character and in some final bosses), which make the graphic quality of this game stand out even more. The design of the enemies is not very varied and they have to repeat a lot throughout the levels that we advance, even so, they are mostly very original and solid designs.
All the soundtrack in some way or another manages to represent very well all that magical aspect that is so present in this game. Achieving a pretty good result depending on what scenario we find ourselves as they fit very well with the atmosphere, colorful and decorated each melody that was composed and chosen for certain types of situations and scenarios.
Nightmare Busters is a platform and Run and Gun game, since our main character will be able to attack our enemies using magic attacks. It is a horizontal side scrolling game, but very entertaining, it is also quite challenging because it has a slightly high difficulty, often being a great challenge to overcome in some levels. After each end of each stage we will have to fight with a final boss, which as usual in this type of games, will have a different set of attacks to the other bosses. It is a fairly basic game in terms of mechanics, having our character, in addition to his magical attacks, abilities as basic and simple as running and jumping.
However, despite this "simplicity" Nightmare Busters is a very entertaining game, as well as challenging (as I have already mentioned). Our character has different magic attacks, from fire attacks, magic card attacks (like Gambit from the X-Men) and an energy wave attack.
Nightmare Busters is one of those many games that in its day its development was canceled, but after many years, its development was completed so that it can be enjoyed by the public. As happened with this game, there are many others that completed their development several years later, but there are also others that to this day still remain incomplete or canceled and are probably games that will never see the light.
