Apex Legends has always been good. Of the great battles on the horizon, it is the best as long as you want a good fight. Guns feel great, the characters are unforgettable garbage bags with fun skills, and Respawn has gotten the right amount of Titanfall 2 movement to move on to the epic battlefield. But last year he saw Apex enter itself as a loyal follower of Respawn's wall runner.
Olympus is far and far from the best (and best) game map to date, though the recently revived World's Edge is approaching. Arenas is an acceptable way to combat royale that sounds like an easily accessible, Apex-flavored spin on Valorant. And the simulation of the game has improved significantly with the throwing of Titanfall, Aussie bombers, and the long-term addition of the Scottish people to the Apex list. Shoutout to Respawn for straight-up add me to the game, eh?
All of that in addition to cycles that always sound like it has the perfect combination of spoiling leisure time and high octane fire extinguishers. In 2021, Apex Legends is not just a good war. It is probably the best competitive shooter you can play today.
I took a break from Apex after Respawn damaged World's Edge by removing the train (and the Mirage party boat). I was finally dragged back, and I fell back in love again. My favorite change this season is that all maps are now available in rotation. That gives a real sense of diversity during the evening, especially given that the recent redesign of World's Edge leaves us in a much better position. Sure, most games are still swallowed by the Fragment, but at least you know you stay a few hours from returning from Olympus.
