Can you tell us how your parents have contributed to your life?
Let me begin by saying may the Lord bless my parents immensely. They have done so much for me and are still doing it even now that I am a man. The contributions of my parents to my life cut across moral, educational, social, economic and spiritual. I will talk about each of these areas one after the other.
Moral: My parents have done their best to ensure that I conduct myself properly. They instilled discipline in me that makes me to be very conscious of what is right and what is wrong. They trained me to have respect for any other human being regardless of gender, tribe, age and race. They also taught me to capitalise on the strengths of others and not their weakness.
Education: My parents tried their best to help me acquire a circular education. At some point in primary school, I hated schooling but they gave me reasons to like school and today, I can proudly say that I am a University graduate courtesy of my parent.
Social life: This is another area of life that my parent contributed so greatly. They shape my thoughts and perspectives on the kind of dressing that is best for me, why I should not drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, the clubs and societies I can belong to, programs I should watch and listen to on the television and what I must do to have a balance social life like bathing twice a day, brushing first thing in the morning and lasting before I go to bed, and so many other things.
Economic: Aside from ensuring that I go to school, my parents engaged me to become a roadside electrical engineer where I learned how to fix refrigerators, stabilizers, press irons, wiring of houses etc. Today, I can proudly say that I am industrious and can survive with or without government work.
Spiritual: My parent are religious people and so they have helped me and taught me the ways of God by taking me to Sunday school, Bible studies, having morning and evening devotions daily, quoting bible verses to correct me when I go wrong etc.
These and many other things I can not mention here are the contributions of my parents in my life.
How can we repay the favour of our parents?
Source
We cannot repay the favour and contributions of our parents because what they have done and are still doing is immeasurable. It is only God who can reward these sacrifices that they have made. Meanwhile, we can do the following to show them how grateful and indebted we are to them:
- Making sure that we constantly make adequate provisions for their upkeep (feeding, toiletries etc).
- Constantly visiting them, calling on the phone or inviting them for vacation.
- Praying constantly that God should keep them in perfect health condition.
- Maintaining the legacies and training they have given us anywhere we find ourselves as that will make them proud and satisfied. Hearing that their children are doing and living well is enough to make them happy because it is the prayer of every parent that their children should be well-behaved in society.
If you are or will become a parent in the future, how will you treat your children?

By God's grace, I am a parent with three children. The Bible tells me in Psalms 127:3-5 that "Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him". This informs me that the children I have are God's property and I am only a manager. This means that I will one day give an account of how I handle them.
As a parent, I have purposed in my heart to:
- Train my children in the ways of God as the Bible says train up a child in the ways of the Lord and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
- I will do my best to ensure that they attend the best school I can afford and also assist them to do better in their academics.
- I will provide for them as the Lord provides for me.
- I will protect them with my life.
- I will give them my time as much as I can so that I may not be an absent father for my kids
This is an open contest and apart from this, if you want to tell anything else then you can add it.

Parenthood comes with challenging responsibility and every parent must understand this. We must also come to this reality that aside from us the parents, other agents can influence and shape children positively or negatively which they are: peer groups, social media, school, community etc. Therefore, we must watch the kind of friendships our children keep, the community we are living in, the programmes they watch and listen to on television and the internet, and also the kind of school they attend. What they will learn out there may sabotage our efforts if we are not careful.
Conclusion
The contributions or role of parent to their children cannot be repaid. May God bless and reward all parents.
