I want to thank @m-fdo for the wonderful contest she organized and for each of us to be able to share how we spent our day. I also want to thank @stef1 for the invitation :)

Today I will tell you about my next trip, which was with
one of Colorado's famous historic narrow gauge railroads. This engineering marvel took us high above the Devil's Gate Bridge and carried us through a scenic Rocky Mountain trail. Silver mine tour with train ride available.

It's a trip to remember! The beauty of the Rocky Mountains surrounded us as our old locomotive wound its way up Clear Creek Canyon. We passed the remains of gold and silver mines and breathtaking views along the line, in fully enclosed and open carriages. Great family fun for kids and adults.

The scenic train runs daily from May to mid-October and some days until early January. The train journey takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. We passengers enjoyed incredible views of the mountains, which are accompanied by the incredible feeling of returning to another time when the railroad ruled, mining was a way of life, and outlaws dotted the land. An engineering marvel, originally built in 1884, the railroad lived up to the hopes of the citizens of Georgetown to become a prosperous settlement connecting Denver and points east.

To connect Silver Plume and Georgetown, towns more than 2 miles apart, the tracks had to climb 640 feet above sea level over mountainous terrain, requiring trestles, cuts, fills, loops and turns totaling 4 .5 miles. Today it is once again a popular tourist attraction and an unusual way to see the valley.

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service and the Department of the Interior, the amphitheater is a top destination for Colorado residents and tourists from around the world. It is a 15 mile drive from Denver.

Silver Plume is home to the restored Silver Plume Depot, which offers a free slide show and exhibits on the railroad's history, as well as steam engines and cars on display at the adjacent railroad station.
