What are the traditional outfits commonly worn in your country?

Each country has various types of unique traditional clothing influenced by culture, tradition, climate, and modern trends. Some countries even have rules for dressing both formally and informally. There are countries that apply strict dress codes for both formal and everyday wear. While many other countries adhere to a mix of traditional and contemporary styles. In my beloved country, Indonesia, the way of dressing is also regulated to suit local norms and culture, customs and weather conditions. In addition to having to be in accordance with culture and customs, dressing must also respect religious traditions.

However, nowadays the way of dressing of Indonesian people, especially young people, is now experiencing many changes. Even young people follow the way of dressing of their idols which is not necessarily in accordance with Indonesian customs and culture. This is because the increasingly rapid modernization in Indonesia facilitates the influence of social change in the thinking patterns of Indonesian people from being traditional to modern. Indonesia, which is one of the large countries, consists of various different tribes and cultures. Each region also has its own traditional clothing which is commonly known as traditional clothing.

Are there any dress codes followed in schools, workplaces, or religious places? Tell us about them

All of these traditional clothes are often used for sacred events in various regions in Indonesia. In general, the national clothes of Indonesia are kebaya and batik. Kebaya is the national dress of women, while batik is the national dress of men. One of the traditional clothes is Ulee Balang which is the traditional dress of Aceh, one of the regions in Indonesia. The traditional dress Ulee Balang is a blend of Malay and Islamic culture which is the largest ethnicity and religion in Indonesia. Although in our country there is freedom in dressing, it must still follow certain rules.

But for certain places such as schools to workplaces, the way of dressing is regulated in such a way for uniformity. For example, for school clothes there are certain rules that must be followed by all students. The school dress rules are regulated in a government regulation and apply to all students. Likewise, for official clothes in government offices, it is also regulated so that all employees wear the same uniform. While for religion there are no special rules in dressing but each place adjusts to the conditions.

In your country, what type of dresses people wear on weddings including the dresses of bride and groom?

Traditional clothing in general in beloved Indonesia is usually used at sacred events, such as weddings. Or it is often used at formal events to welcome and honor the guests who come. At a party in Indonesia, the bride and groom wear traditional clothing typical of their respective regions. In Aceh itself, at the party, the bride and groom usually wear traditional Acehnese clothing, Linto Baro traditional Acehnese clothing for men and Daro Baro traditional Acehnese clothing for women which is made based on a blend of Arab, Malay, and Chinese cultures. Traditional clothing also symbolizes that we love the customs and culture in Aceh, because when we wear these clothes we feel proud to be part of the Acehnese community.

What is your personal favorite traditional or modern outfit, and why?

As a civil servant who is bound by dress codes, I often wear work clothes at work. While outside of official work and in my daily activities I like to wear soft jeans and t-shirts. Although sometimes I also often wear cloth pants that I combine with a shirt. I like these contemporary clothes because they can make all my daily activities easier. For traditional or national clothes I like to wear batik clothes and also black cloth pants. Because batik clothes are a characteristic of Indonesia and these clothes are also official clothes for formal work.
