Goddess Durga is one of the famous goddesses in the Hindu religion. It is believed that there are 9 forms of goddess Durga. These nine forms of Goddess Durga are also known as NAVADURGA. Let us learn in detail about the nine forms of Goddess Durga.


01. Shailaputri

The first form of Goddess Durga is also known as Shailaja. Worshipped on 1st day of Navratri.

"Shaila" means the mountain and this form refers to the daughter of the mountain Himalaya, Goddess Parvati.

She is depicted with her animal pet the "Nandi" bull.





02. Brahmacharini

The second form of navadurga is Brahmcharini. Worshipped on 2nd day of Navratri.

She was born as a great sati at the home of Daksha Prajapati. It is her unmarried form also known as Goddess Parvati.

The deity of the Goddess holds kamandal in her left hand and a mala in her right hand. She is always represented barefooted.




03. Chandraghanta

The third form of Durga that is Chandraghanta. Worshipped on 3rd day of Navratri .

The goddess is depicted with her wisdom third eye open to see all evils and is always ready for war with demons.

She is depicted as a goddess with 10 hands to hold all weapons and support provided by all god and goddess.

The half moon on her forehead shaped like a bell, also justify her name being Chandraghanta.
