Without communication, there is no way that you can know the feelings of someone, like what he or she is going through. With the help of communication, there are so many things we get to know about ourselves which I have shared in this post.

Yes, I agree with the statement "Communication skill is the power". Within myself I have seen the importance of communication in my life, and how communication has helped me to build my skills. However, below are a few reasons why agree with the statement:

• INFLUENCE & PERSUASION:

Effective communication is capable of persuading and influencing the character of others, enabling those who are leaders to inspire and guide their followers. For example, communication helps marketers to sell their products and reach negotiations with clients.

• PROBLEM SOLVING:

Effective communication is capable of solving problems through the sharing of ideas, feedback, and thought. Also, it helps in brainstorming, discussing, potential solutions, and making decisions that are informed.

• BUILD RELATIONSHIPS:

Good communication helps to build relationships and maintain professional or personal relationships. Before a male and female must come together as friends which can lead to marriage there must be good communication in their relationship.

• CAREER ADVANCEMENT/OPPORTUNITY:

Communication skills are important in our careers and are more valued by employers when you're looking for a job or being interviewed. Without communication, there would be no communication between staff and customers.

Can you provide an example of a situation where "Communication skill is the power"?

There are so many places in life where communication skills are the power. For example, in the hospital where a patient would have to discuss his or her health issue for the doctor to understand and know what is wrong with him or her.

Another, example where communication skills are the power is in education where a teacher, or lecturer would have to communicate properly for students to learn and understand the subject topic. Poor communication can lead to a lack of understanding in the education sector.

Like when I was in school, I contested for director of finance during my manifestos I communicated so well to the people, it helped and placed me in a better position because I was able to communicate the things that they wanted to see in the institution, but although, I didn't win the election because there was a communication that started circulating that am not indigene of the state. Communication is a powerful tool that can build or destroy someone.

One of the historical examples where "communication skill is the power led to significant change" was the communication that advised Nigeria and the world at large to wear a face mask, while in public places to protect and prevent themselves from contracting COVID-19.

Communication of wearing a face mask became so powerful and important to everyone across the world during the COVID-19 period that people communicated seriously to protect themselves. It was communicated that the best way to protect someone from contracting Corona infection is through the use of a face mask or by covering our face with handkerchiefs.

The effectiveness of the communication to reach out to diverse groups of people in Nigeria with public health measures was very significant to the Nigerians and helped to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

How can one improve their communication skills?

One can improve their communication skills by practicing the following which have been shared below.

By being active in listening: You have to focus on what another person is saying, without interrupting the person as he or she is speaking to you. To this, you have to show that you are listening to the person by maintaining eye contact or nodding your head and speaking when you are told to do so.

By Reading and learning: Reading books can help a person to learn faster, as the person would very to learn from experts to know the strategy of communication and the right words to use when communicating.

Public Speaking: You have to join a society or group that would allow you to practice public speaking so you can overcome stage fright and outspokenness.

By practicing: It is said that practice makes one perfect and you have to practice how to communicate with others to avoid making mistakes. You can practice how to read, read and so on.
