Is time your Friend or is it your Foe?

DO TIME REALLY FLY BY THAT FAST?

They always say that time is limited or that time moves fast. You may not even realize that years had already gone by since the last time you've had a Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. But have you noticed that time only moves fast when you are happy? Maybe it's because you lose track of time, like a basketball defense that got his ankles (You and me) broken therefore the scorer (Time) is now able to blow by with ease. In contradiction, Time does take its time (no pun intended) when you actually focus on it. But Time does also move fast when you worry. Now that confuses me. That is a question that has been lingering in my mind ever since. That realization has prompted me to go down memory lane to see how life had been leading up to the present.

Now imagine you in that exam room, staring down at the blank paper in front of you, when all of a sudden, time chooses to wear its slowest shoes ever. Every sound of the clock seems to resonate throughout the space, extending moments into eternity. As you begin writing, you try to remember everything you stuffed the previous evening into your head. But it feels like you're walking through mud as you scrape your pen across the paper. You feel like you have to climb a mountain to answer each question, and every second that goes by feels like the clock is mocking you. In the vain hope that it has been at least an hour since you began, you take a glimpse at the clock on the wall. But nope, it's only been five minutes. Five agonizingly slow minutes that felt more like five hours. And then there's that moment when you realize you're running out of time. Panic sets in, and suddenly, the clock seems to speed up, ticking away the seconds like it's on a mission to ruin your day. That "You", was actually me.

Do you recall the sensation you get from relaxing in the sun at the beach with your pals by your side? Time seems to accelerate at the speed of light and push the turbo button. Whether you're playing beach volleyball, splashing in the surf, or just relaxing on the sand with your closest friends, you're laughing and telling stories. There is laughter, companionship, and unadulterated joy in every second. Feeling an overwhelming sense of gloom that the day is ending so quickly, you watch as the sun slowly sets over the horizon, covering the beach in a golden glow. However, the memories you've created with your pals are enduring, and before you know it, you're looking forward to your next beach excursion and counting down the days until you can repeat the entire experience. Then again, that "you" is me.

As I stepped into the bustling mall, a whirlwind of emotions swept over me. On one hand, there was a sense of excitement bubbling inside me, eager to explore the shops and maybe treat myself to something nice. But on the other hand, there was a nagging worry gnawing at the back of my mind, like a persistent itch I couldn't quite scratch. I made an effort to ignore my concerns and concentrate instead on the joy that comes from being surrounded by individuals; bright lights, and the possibility of hidden treasures. Perhaps it was the hope of discovering the ideal outfit or a fantastic offer that made me grin in spite of my underlying discomfort. Yet, with every step I took, the worry seemed to grow louder, whispering doubts and insecurities in my ear. What if I couldn't find what I was looking for? What if I spent too much money? What if I got lost in the maze of shops and couldn't find my way back? I continued anyway, determined not to let fear stop me from having fun in the mall, even in the face of these unsettling ideas. I told myself that going outside of my comfort zone is how I learn and grow, and that it's acceptable to feel a bit uneasy sometimes. As you can see, it is about me.

It's fascinating how our emotions and mental states can influence our perception of time passing. When we're happy and fully immersed in the moment, time can seem to fly by. Conversely, when we're worried or anxious, it can feel like time drags on endlessly. Reflecting on these observations and exploring how they relate to our own experiences can lead to some profound insights about life and our relationship with time. Going down memory lane can indeed offer valuable insights into how we've experienced time in different phases of our lives.

Once again, thank you for sticking around!
