The evening that made her smile Nini was a joyful girl. She had a father who always made her feel protected a mother who was kind and a loving family. She enjoyed playing laughing and living in the present. Her smile was as radiant as the light in the morning. Her home was a hive of activity one December evening on the eve of Eid. The sound of laughter reverberated through the walls and the air was filled with the perfume of delectable food.Everyone was content Nini most of all. Her heart was full of joy her hands were hennaed and she was wearing her beautiful clothing. But everything changed that night. Her mother became really unwell all of a sudden. Nini saw her mother who was strong and lovely gasp for air. The family hurried to obtain It was too late to assist.

Her mother died before daybreak. Nini's happiness was stolen that night. The laughter that had filled her home fell silent. Her mother's embrace had lost its warmth. Lost in sorrow her father grew away. He then got married another woman a few months later. Nini was mistaken to believe that things would improve.Nini and her siblings were left behind when her father and his new bride went away. She felt left behind. Months passed and Nini's environment grew gloomy.She hardly smiled hardly spoke. Once full of life the girl now felt hollow on the inside. Then she met Paapo a boy one day. Paapo stood out from the others. He didn't inquire as to her sadness. He didn't Feel sorry for her. He made her chuckle instead. He spent hours conversing with her bringing her candy and cracking dumb jokes.

She gradually began to feel alive once more. Every day she waited for him and when he was there she forgot all of her suffering. She grinned for the first time in a long time. As the years went by their bond deepened. Nini began to think that perhaps just possibly her life was once again filled with bliss. However one day Paapo broke the news to her. He was getting married. Nini's heart fell. Once more she felt deceived by the world. Like her father and mother the one person who had restored her grin was now abandoning her.

She was present at his wedding however She felt as though she was dying inside. She was reminded of the Eid night when her mother had abandoned her by the happiness the laughter and the dazzling lights. While Paapo's life progressed Nini's did not. She fell silent once more. Her smile faded. She was trapped in her sadness while she watched the world change. Her father mother and now her lone buddy had all been stolen away by life. As a result the girl who used to have the biggest smile now lived in a realm of darkness and was never again visited by happiness. Her smile had been permanently caught by the darkness.
