This very day dated 12-2-2024 something led to the preparation of this meal, Mrs Slyvia now known as @sweetest92 on steemit and her husband decided to show appreciation to neighbours for turning up for her wedding, it's been months now and as a way of saying thank you for supporting us with the massive crowd of witnesses, they prepared variety of meals ranging from swallow(soup and garri) to spoon food(Jollof Rice) and today I find it pleasurable to talk about Jollof Rice as it was what I ate that day and it was so delicious, in this student lounge it been long I ate something like this unless I return to my real home(mum and dad's residence)
The ingredients needed to prepare not just an aromatic, satiable Jollof Rice but one with a good taste are listed below. For a start, you will need.
- A preferable amount of rice (3-5 cups of uncooked rice)
- A sachet of vegetable oil
- 2 large onions
- 1 teaspoonful of grated ginger
- Salt, Maggi, pepper
- 2 tins of tomatoes (this depends on the cups of rice)
- 1 pound weight of meat.
HOW TO PREPARE IT? |

- Parboil your rice and put it in a filter for the water to drain.
- Heat your oil in a pot over your gas cooker.
- Add your sliced onion and ginger when the oil is hot and when the onion becomes a bit translucent.
- Add your tomatoes, salt, and pepper, and stir it well; add a little water to it to avoid hot oil sprinkling on you while stirring.
- A very small portion of water will help subsidise it bubbling, and then other ingredients like the ginger and Maggi can be added.
- After stirring, add the rice to the saucepan and stir for a while to avoid it sticking to the pot back.
- Add water to the pot, just enough for boiling it to the end; it may be a higher distance above the rice.
- You can choose to fry your meat and place it on top like I did here or fried it with the onion and spices in the beginning before adding it the rice.

- Jollof can be eaten with a fried egg placed above it.
- Jollof rice can be eaten with fried plantain, whether ripe or unripe.
- Steamed vegetables can be eaten with Jollof rice as well.
Me enjoying the meal
Rice is a grain very good in carbohydrates, as we all know carbohydrates are an energy food. With the addition of meat, we see that protein is provided, onion and garlic help boost digestion, and prevent constipation from coming up easily.
