How to choose indoor plants?

Once you know the benefits of indoor plants, don't rush to the nearby store and buy a lot of plants.

🌿 First check for what purpose are we going to buy plants? Lucky plants? Be it for Vastu problems, office or home, there is a unique plant for every need. Decide that and choose the plants.
🌿 The leaves of some plants are poisonous if you have children and pets in your home. Choose the plants according to that.
🌿 Decide where you are going to place it, i.e. dressing room, bedroom, bathroom, student study room and choose the plants accordingly.
🌿70% of indoor plants can be grown by grafting leaves and stems. If you have your favorite plants at your friends house, you can prune their branches and grow them. When you are a beginner, you can grow a couple of plants like this first without spending a lot of money. After gaining some experience, you can start growing more plants. Because indoor plants are sold at high prices in stores. So this is the best option.
🌿 When shopping for houseplants, choose smaller, less expensive plants first.
🌿 Avoid densely branched plants. Because they are mostly old plants. And grown with too much chemical fertilizers. It would have already given all its powers and grown well. Within a few days of reaching your home, the leaves will turn yellow one by one and fall off. In the end it will die..
🌿 This is the mistake many people make when buying rose plants. They buy plants that bloom a lot and are fluffy. Within a few days of its arrival, the remaining buds will bloom and die. Buy fresh plants that are smaller.
🌿 This is a very important tip : Whatever plant you buy, make sure it has new shoots.
🌿 Do not buy plants that are infested, diseased, or wilted.

How to choose the best pot for indoor plants?

Here is the biggest mistake many people make - choosing a pot for indoor plants. To be a beautiful decoration inside the house, they keep the plants in some pots and kill them. There are many types of tanks available in stores like plastic tanks, ceramic tanks, wooden tanks, cement tanks, glass tanks, bamboo tanks. Pots for ornamental indoor plants are available in various shapes and colors.

Indoor plants prefer cool conditions with some humidity. So if you grow them in a tank with small pores inside, they can breathe easily. My first suggestion for that is shovels. Indoor plants are never; Whatever plant you grow in pots will thrive. Try growing rose plants in soil pots. It grows super and blooms profusely. Next up are porcelain ceramic pots. These tanks are expensive, but beautiful to look at and having long life.

When growing plants in these pots, indoor plants take root well and thrive. I keep all indoor plants in my house in ceramic pots. Avoid plastic containers. Plants can be grown in nursery bags and cement tanks.

You can choose the pots according to the size of the plants. For small plants, 12*12 pots are sufficient. This size tank will be enough for plants like Peace Lily, Zz plants, Anthurium, Dieffenbachia, syngonium plant, Poinsettia etc.

Some people put stones in indoor plant pots for beauty. This does not apply to all plants. Most indoor plant roots are tubers. This affects branching and root growth.

How much water and sunlight should be given?

Indoor plants don't need as much sun as many people think. It is enough to give water every now and then. Indoor plants are not exposed to the heat of direct sun. But it should definitely have a light. Do not keep the plants in the dark room. Plants die because photosynthesis cannot take place.

Choose places that get morning sun or evening sun and place the plants. Even if you are placing plants in places like showcase, dining table, plants should be placed towards the direction of light in those places.
Or at least once every two to three days, place the plants in morning or evening sun and then place them in the desired locations. This is an important note to note in indoor plants. Being indoors, there are more chances of dust getting on the plants and leaves. So when you have time, you can wipe the leaves with a soft damp cotton cloth. Or once in two months the plants can be thoroughly screened, kept in moderate sun for two hours and then brought indoors.

Water:

You don't have to water once a week or once a month. Put your index finger about two inches deep into the potting soil the plant is holding. If it is dry without water, give it water. That's it. It is better to ensure that water does not stagnate and humidity is not high.

Rhizome, bulbs, Tubers, Corms or bulbous plants, Plants like Adenium store water in bulbs at the root nodules. Such plants can live without water for up to a month. And thus when the soil dries out well, its roots begin to seek out areas of water. This will increase root growth.

The Kodak-like area above the soil - starts out big. This makes adeniums look like bonsai plants. This is a great tip. If you want to grow adenium as a bonsai, give it a try.

Best soil mix for indoor plants:

Indoor plants are very flexible. Like children. They require more care in preparing the soil mixture. If you prepare the soil mixture correctly, you can be successful in growing indoor plants.

Soil mix:

These quantities are per tank. Thus you prepare the soil mixture and keep it in a shady place for a week and then you can plant the plants in this soil mixture.
While planting plants, 100% root growth when given as the first water with a spoonful of Epsom salt. This is one trick I follow. Or even clear rainwater can be used.

Fertilizers, Pest Control:

Indoor plants do not require much fertilizer. Once every two or three months, a handful of vermicompost can be mixed into the root zone. A spoonful of Epsom salt can be given for flowering plants. Liquid fertilizers are better than solid fertilizers for indoor plants. Since indoor plants are mostly leafy plants, they should be given a nitrogen-rich fertilizer. For that you can use the following five fertilizers.

🪴 rain water
🪴 VermiCompost
🪴 Meal Maker soaked water
🪴 Banana peel soaked water.
🪴 Aloe vera peel soaked water.

Compost Tea:

Compost tea is vermicompost or vegetable waste compost or cow manure. Only the water that remains on the top should be drained. This is compost tea. It can be mixed with twice the amount of water and given to indoor plants.

Pest Control:

Indoor plants usually don't get disease, insect attack and anything that big. When preparing the soil mixture, Neem Punnaku and Trichoderma Viridi are mixed to prevent plant diseases, fungi and insect attacks. In case of insect attack, neem oil mixed with khadi soap at the rate of three drops per half liter can be sprayed on the leaves. Or you can take ear buds, touch water mixed with neem oil and apply it on the leaves. Regular use of neem oil solution
is sufficient; No disease or pest infestation. That's how indoor plants grow.

Conclusion

Now you have an idea about growing indoor plants. You too can enjoy decorating your homes with greenery with indoor plants.

Great tips on indoor plants! It's really important to choose the right plants and pot for indoor gardening. I love the idea of using ceramic pots, they not only look great but also provide the necessary conditions for indoor plants to thrive. The suggestion of checking the soil moisture before watering is also very useful. Thank you for sharing this information.
