EARLY BEGINNING

International women's day celebration dates back to early 20th centuries when women's right started gaining volts and voice worldwide. As at the time, women were trying to fight for their rights. They were on the motion that everyone is equal and as such equal rights should be given to both genders without gender based discrimination.

The first women's day celebration was organized by the American socialist party. It was held in New York city on 28th of February, 1909 which was ignited by the garment workers' in 1908 which made thousands of women to rise by protesting against what they felt wasn't done right to them, such as:
•poor working conditions
•Low wages
•Infringement on their rights(like owning a property)
•Inferiority complex
•majority and minority governance
Amongst others

BRIEF HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

The international women's day was suggested by a German socialist and a women's right activist named Clara Zetkin. She was the woman that came up with the idea of "International women's day celebration".
This event took place at the international conference of socialist women in 1910 at Copenhagen, Denmark.

The first international women's day celebration was observed in certain countries like Australia, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland and to align with their will, over a minion feminines were present. And to crown it all up, they participated in rallies and different events all for the sake of gaining equal rights and women suffrages.

THE CHANGE

The date of the international women's day celebration was later changed from 28th of February to 8th March. This changed was backed up by the Russian revolution where women played a significant role in furthering the movements. So, in honor of the event, the date of the celebration was changed to 8th of March. This was effected In 1917. The international women's day was recognized by the United Nations and since then, the celebration has been taking place annually year after year on the above mentioned date.

Over to the questions backing the contest

Who is that worthy woman you are thinking of on this special day?

The special woman with virtue, intelligence, my admirable role model woman, a woman who has created an unforgettable impact in Nigeria as a country and as a nation state is no other person than "Flora Shaw", a British journalist and a writer too. She was born on the 19th of December, 1852 in England. She was married to Sir Frederick Lugard who was a British colonel administrator in 1902. Flora Shaw gave up to the ghost on the 25th of January, 1929 in England.

What special quality did she have, and how did it help you or the society?

Flora Shaw had a very unique quality of care. She practiced selflessness which made her think good about Nigeria which was not even her continent. But out of her caring and act of belonging, she thought of our country and gave it a name, "Nigeria".
This incident took place at the Niger river which divides the country and the river was previously called "The Royal Niger Company Territories". In her context, she felt that Nigeria would positively fit in to differentiate the territory with other countries or colonies within the region. The name Nigeria was given by Lady Flora Shaw to the British Protectorates at River Niger.
So with what she did, she has help both the society, me in person and the entire nation at large for eternity.

What lesson did you learn from her?

Even after she faced so many challenges at her early stage of life, like financial difficulties, death of her mother in 1870, Flora didn't give up but rather she became even stronger taking up the task of caring for her younger siblings all by herself. She started writing children's books inorder to Carter for herself and her family which I really commend and imitate her for that.

How would you express your gratitude to her on this day?

Expressing gratitude to her is an understatement, wished there was a more coincided word to use. As an individual and as a country, we owe her everything good. I thank her immensely for showing such kind affection to Nigeria without even considering the racism of the white(British and English) on the blacks (Africans). This act makes her even virtuous.

CONCLUSION

As we mark today to celebrate women who are virtuous, laid positive footprint for imitation and motivation, who have impacted lives in all spheres. We urge all the girl child to imitate the good deeds of these women and see them as their role models. With this, there will be equality of rights and the society will be a better place to live in harmony, safety and in good health
