One Picture And One Story Week

On the 30th of July, 2024, I traveled to Onicha, I started the journey at night and I reached Onicha the next day around 6:30 in the morning, while still on the journey, I was sleeping because it was night and a convenient time to sleep and rest but I woke up from sleep when I reached Enugu and I didn't sleep again.

When our car reached Onicha, the car stopped and dropped us all in a place called Opinweka. So, after I dropped from the car, I was very tired because it was the first time I to traveled this far out of my state of origin.

Where I was going was a local government called Ehiala local government and I needed to take another car to Ehiala but I also needed to take a bike from Opinweka to Ehiala Park where I could get a car to Ehiala. So, while I was still standing waiting for the bike that would convey me to the pack, there was a young guy who was at my back and was trying to open my bag to steal, thank God, when he was at my back, I had a feeling that someone was at my back and immediately, I turned back and saw him trying to open my back. When I caught him, he didn't say anything or even apologize to me, he turned his back quietly and went his way. I was so surprised at what happened and what bothered me the most was that people around were watching as he was trying to open my back.

After I stood in the spot for a few minutes, I was able to get a bike that took me to Ehiala pack and immediately I reached the pack, I got a car to Ehiala. I entered the car and I was still in shock because of what happened. So, there was a woman who sat next to me, she saw how I was not feeling comfortable in the car and she asked if I was okay, I replied to her that I was not fine and also told her of what happened at Opinweka, after the woman heard my story, she laughed and asked if I was a stranger or whether this was the first time that I came to Onicha and I said yes.

The woman told me that Opinweka is a very dangerous place and that even she as an Igbo and Indigenous person of the land is very careful with her properties once she reaches Opinweka,

she also said that in Opinweka, when a thief is stealing anything from someone, people will see and will not say anything about it, so, I asked her why or whether it is their culture and she said that anybody who tries to stop a thief from stealing, multiples number of thieves will visit that person's house and that the thieves will make sure that the took something very valuable from you even if it means taking the life of your only child or anyone so dear to you.

The woman further said to me that she was glad that they didn't succeed in stealing from me and that the only advice she would give to me is to be very careful with myself as far as I am in Onicha.

After some minutes she reached where she was supposed to drop from the car and she dropped after which after some minutes, I also dropped from the car and carefully headed to my destination.

I want to invite @josepha @dave-hanny and @simonnwigwe

How do you people have the courage to travel by land at night? OMG! I can't even imagine it. It is risky as you can easily get robbed or any other bad thing can happen. Please be very careful next time you are traveling o.
