How would you describe the average internet speed in your country? Is it equal to global standards or not?

According to Speedtest.net, India's average internet speeds in November 2023 were:

Mobile download speed was 94.62 Mbps and upload speed was 9.02 Mbps.

Fixed broadband download speed 58.62 Mbps and upload speed 50.42 Mbps.

I am surprised to know that India ranks 18th out of 145 countries in mobile internet speed and 87th out of 181 countries in case of fixed broadband.

India ranks fifth after Swdeen Finland Norway and UK and US ranks sixth as cashless society.

Though India has a lower population % (77) of internet users in comparison to European countries >95%, but India provide internet service to .1.1 billion users. Total no of top four countries users are 85.1 million only.

I didn't check internet speed earlier. I just googled how to check internet speed. I found a link of an online server with the button RUN SPEED TEST. I just clicked, it checked mbps download and mbps upload on dial meter. It just produced the results as 67.6 and 13 respectively.

How the slow internet speed can affect our personal and professional lives?

Upload speed is very important for professional work particularly when we attach pictures or document files with mail. Upload speed is also important when we upload videos to our YouTube channel.

Download speed is also important in case of videos at a higher speed and video conferencing as well as multiple tasking.

25 or more mbps speed is recommended for uninterrupted streeming of HD content. Smart TV require a speed in between 10-25 mbps.

I have not faced any UPI linked payment delay due to speed but in rural areas there are issues of internet speed where hotspot are shared for UPI transaction.

In your opinion, what steps can be taken to improve internet speed and accessibility in your country?

The first PC at home had a RAM of 8MB and we used BSNL dial up connection for the Internet. Those days internet speed was only 64kbps. At that time we were satisfied with that speed. But with the development of web technology and other advanced software we need to improve our system as well as speedy internet become inevitable. That's why my mobile RAM is 12GB .

5G internet is now available in our city we are satisfied with the speed of download and upload.

However our country is planning to introduce 6G service in the near future.
