Steemit Engagement Challenge | S7W1 | My Favorite Festival: New Year

Hello dear friends,

This is a new beginning of our lives in 2023 and here we are in a new season of the Engagement challenge. This week I'm going to speak about my favorite festival. When I was reading many of the friends speaking about their favorite festival I really wanted to share mine too.

New Year

Despite the religion, we all love the New year. New year celebrations are different from one country or nationality to another. The new year is celebrated all around the world. We make different food items, we buy new clothes and the houses are renovated to welcome the new year. I will share how I celebrate the New year.

In Srilanka also there are different ways that people celebrate the New year. 31 st night is the starting point of the New year. As a small family, my family got ready to celebrate the new year in the last week of December. We had planned what food we are going to make for the new year and what things we planned to do on the new year day.

This is how I spent and celebrated my New year day.

Early in the morning we did lit the fire on the hearth and first we did a milk heating. This is know to bring good luck to the family.

A beetle leaf is kept to close the top of the pot and when the milk comes out after heating we can remove it. This can be done in the living room or our side the main entrance of the house. I did it just outside the main entrance. The placement was done nicely so that milk and the heat doesn't spread all over the house.

For the breakfast, I made milk rice with a spicy onion sambal. Then as side dishes, I made fish cutlets, cakes, donuts, and mini donuts, and finally, I made a sausage and cheese finger bites dish. My mom has got some bananas and it was also kept on the table. So this is the breakfast table for 2023.

For the lunch my mom's best friend's family came and we prepared for the lunch too.

The lunch was a bit heavy as there was a set of guests. Me and my mom made Yellow rice with chicken curry, dhal curry, potato tempered curry with cutlets. Then a new dish is made using brinjals. Brinjals are fried and then using milk the fried brinjals are cooked.

As a condiment We had brinjal moju. This is made three days before the lunch day. So the yummy food was enjoyed on the new year day.

After the lunch some people share food with others, So we also shared food with others.
