I bring you greetings from my own part of the world (Nigeria). I hope you all are doing well and are enjoying your happy lives.
I am delighted to participate in this contest titled: "Independence Day Of My Country" organized by @abdullahw2 in this great community.
Country Independence can simply be seen as the situation whereby a country is free from external influence or rule and has the freedom to make decisions (economic and political decisions etc) and self governance without external interruption.
What is the date of Independence Day in your country and from whom your country took independence?
I am a Nigerian and my country is Nigeria.
The independence day of my country (Nigeria) is on the 1st of October 1960. It was the day in which Nigeria as a country was granted freedom from the colonial rule. A constitution was made and Nnamdi Azikiwe became the first president of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria.
Initially,, Nigeria was ruled by the British government. So the took their independence from the British colonial government, (The Britain).
Who is a prominent national figure associated with your country's independence, and why are they important?
A prominent national figure associated with Nigeria independence is in person of Nnamdi Azikiwe. He was a source of inspiration to others who also fought for nigeria independence and He eventually became the First president of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria and ruled for 3years.
Other prominent national figure includes,,,
Obafemi Awolowo, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Herbert Macaulay, Ahmadu Bello etc.
They are important because the stood so strong and fought tiredlessly until the ensure that Nigeria got her Independence. They were selfless while fighting for the country's independence.
Their goal and focus was to get freedom for the entire country and not just for some few persons or personality. They are the reason why Nigeria as a country is independent today.
Do the people of your country perform any special activities on your country's independence day? Tell us about them.
Yes! yes!! yes!!!
Independence Day in my country is always declared as a public holiday for all its citizens to enable them celebrate well and have enough time to do all the special activities they have that day.
Nigeria has 36 States and 774 local government. So each of this State and local government has different ways of celebrating the independence day.
Therefore,,, I will be talking specifically about my own state (nasarawa) and where I live, Akwanga, ola to be precise.
In Akwanga local government,,the way independence day is being celebrated is, almost all the family within my side usually cook white rice and even slaughter chickens, goats, or probably even cow atimes.
After, eating and drinking from morning till evening,,, the cultural and traditional dance usually comes in the evening in two particular markets square,, call Akpata and Angwan sabo. It is a place where the eggon people meets dressed in cultural attire, singing and dancing to their cultural songs, and holding the nigeria flag in celebration of the Independence Day.
It is usually a massive gathering and alot of people from different part of Akwanga and even outside Akwanga usually comes to witness the independence celebration in my side.
Why do you think independence is compulsory for a nation or country?
Every nation which lacks independence no matter how prosperous they are,, they will always be regarded as slaves before the civil world simply because they are still dependent on others.
So therefore,, independence is compulsory for a nation or country for the following reasons;
So they can be able to make decisions for the best interest of its citizens without external influence.
They can freely protect the rights of their citizens.
Independence serves as encouragement for innovation and resilience for the country and it's citizens as well.
Independence gives a nation the freedom to select their leaders and their political systems too.
Independence enable a nation to uniquely promote and practice their cultures and traditions without external interruption.
This and many more are reasons why every country needs independence.
