Domestic violence is intimate partner violence that happens in most homes. It refers to a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to control power or maintain power over another partner in an intimate relationship. Domestic violence can be in different forms physical abuse, sexual assault, digital, and psychological abuse are a form of domestic violence. Physical abuse involves causing bodily harm to another partner, then emotional or psychological abuse involves intimidation, isolation, and threat to the person's life. Sexual assaults involve the use of force to sleep with someone, and finally, financial abuse involves controlling the resources of the person.

Domestic violence affects people in respective of age, gender, and social status. It has many consequences for the victim, such as mental health, injuries, trauma, and so on. Many children who witness or are been faced with domestic violence live their lives at risk in their homes and domestic violence needs to be looked into in our society.

Briefly Explain at least three main types of domestic Violence.

The three main types of domestic violence are explained below.

Physical Abuse:
Physical abuse is the type of domestic violence that involves the use of physical force on someone. Like for example if you are using physical force like slapping, hitting, kicking, punching, and so on against your partner you have done physical abuse which is domestic violence.

Sexual Abuse:
This is the type of domestic violence that involves any non-consensual sexual activity against your partner. This type of domestic violence includes rape, pressuring a partner into sex, or forced to have sex with your partner. Also, sexual Abuse involves coercion, where the abuser manipulates or threatens the life of the victim just to have sex against the will of the victim.

Psychological or Emotional Abuse:
This is the type of domestic violence that involves a partner abusing the behavior of another partner. It involves abuses like insults, threats, manipulation, humiliation, the use of hash words, and so on. Also isolating and restricting someone of his or her fundamental human rights is an emotional abuse.

Why is it important to raise awareness about domestic violence in society?

Raising awareness about domestic violence in society is very important as it helps to break the cycle of stigma and silence that surrounds the issue of domestic violence. Many victims of domestic violence are suffering in silence due to shame, fear lack of understanding which by raising awareness in society can encourage people to be bold enough to speak up or defend themselves.

By raising awareness, Victims would be free from stigma and be free from domestic violence as they are people who would be ready to help. Raising awareness can also foster societal change by challenging the attitudes and norms that perpetuate domestic violence in society.

Have you ever seen a real case of domestic Violence in your life? Tell us about it.

Yes, I have never seen a real case of domestic violence in my life. There was this man in my area who as he traveled home came back with his late brother's son to come and be staying with him. When he brought the young boy home, his wife was not happy about it, and the wife started mistreating the boy and demanded prived he go to school which all the boy was doing was working at home 24 hours.

At this minute he will be washing clothes, the next minute cleaning house, from one domestic work to another. Even when he has no work to do, they will lock him up in an empty room inside the house, and if he should try to complain the woman would beat, abuse, and lie on his head that he is a criminal. I felt pity for the boy.
