Hello to all my steemit friends. I hope you are all well. This is the my participation for the contest which known as Contest | 1 Picture 1 Story Week #26 organized by @suboohi. I am so happy to engage with this contest. Today I am going to share a big picture in my life with a story. Let's go to the article.

A big occasion of my life

Today I am going to talk about the picture above. When you see it, you might think that it is a picture taken at the time of laying the foundation stone of an ordinary foundation. No. It was the beginning of one of the biggest dreams of my life. That's the starting occasion of my new house. According to our Sri Lankan culture, it is a very important moment in a boy's life. They consider having or building a house of their own as a sign of stability in a boy's life. So recently I got the chance to start it. I am going to talk about that today with this photo.

I am currently abroad. Therefore, I could not participate in that event. My younger brother laid the foundation stone for me at that time. He is the one who is tying a piece of white cloth like that in that picture. On this occasion, my parents and some of my friends came to help. Here, our religion has several rituals to perform according to the culture. You may or may not have heard that every person born in Sri Lanka has a horoscope. The document is prepared by an astrologer according to the time of birth. So, before such auspicious activities, check the horoscope and choose an auspicious time. At the auspicious time given by the astrologer, the foundation stone is laid and work begins.

You can see in this picture a coconut flower and some coconuts hanging on a wooden stick. A branch of a jackfruit tree is taken as a wooden stick. You may have seen a white discharge when the jackfruit tree is crushed. Purity is expected from it. Also, there is a belief in our culture as confirmation of the security of that land. You must have seen a design made of coconut leaves in the upper right corner of the picture. It is a design prepared to place flowers, lamps and other offerings needed for religious activities. There is a person dressed in white who has come to perform religious activities. He is an expert in that field. According to the auspicious time, a milk pot was placed on the stove and the religious activities were performed after the milk was left. After that the work started. So that's how I start laying a foundation according to my culture.

So guys, this is how one of the most important moments of my life began. At the same time, I explained to you about the special rituals of my culture. As a Sri Lankan, that is the culture of my country. Similar rituals can be seen in many Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, Nepal and Myanmar. I don't know much about western countries and other countries. So guys, I hope your countries also have these special customs.
