Steem greetings from the motherland-Cameroon to all food lovers and great chefs on the platform. It is the 3rd week of the season 11 engagement challenge. The optic for this week’s challenge dwells on “Steemit Iron Chef. Food TV Program”.
I am delighted to share my food-related content in this community. If there is anything I love doing with no regrets is cooking. Without wasting much time, I will base my arguments on the following guiding questions below 👇 👇.
What has been your favourite food TV show of all time, the one you remember watching as a child with your mom or your grandmother, or what is your current favourite and why is it?
My mom was a great chef and because she cared about what we as the kids eat as food, she was always busy in the kitchen preparing a meal for the family. Unfortunately, she never followed any TV program to become a great chef. Today, she used to remind us that we are in a modern age where we could learn new varieties of recipes both online and on TV. She never had the opportunity at that time to own a TV set.
Notwithstanding, as a student, I had a TV program I followed on the national television channel every weekday early as 7:00 AM-10:00 AM. This program was called “Hello”. On the program, the host always takes us to the kitchen to showcase what the chef was preparing for the day.
It was my favourite program and I could not hesitate to focus on it, especially during the summer holidays to learn new recipes from the chef. The station chef prepared breakfast, deserts and at times the host of the program takes us to different kitchens in different regions of the country to showcase different traditional delicacies and methods of preparing the meal. I love this part of the program and it helped me to learn new recipes.
Do you think that TV shows are an attractive way to learn new recipes or cooking tips?
According to me Watching tv shows facilitate the learning process but has lots of distractions. One cannot effectively learn some recipes by watching a food TV program as some ingredients are good when you see them physically.
However, there are some easy cooking programs where one could learn how to prepare breakfast, and easier meals but not those complicated traditional delicacies.
Notwithstanding, it all depends on individuals as some fast learners can easily learn on such tv programs and cook different delicacies.
At what time would you like us to be on the air, and what would be the type of food that would most attract your attention to learn on your favourite food tv show, desserts, snacks, savoury meals?
As I earlier said, the TV program “Hello 🇨🇲” used to be hosted from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. But the kitchen part of the program was just for about 30 minutes for the chef to showcase what was on the menu for the day.
The chef while presenting the menu for the day, explained the ingredients used and the process of cooking the meal.
What attracted my attention to follow the program was the preparation of savoury traditional delicacies. I learn how to cook “eru”, one of the commonly consumed traditional meals in Cameroon.
What are for you the main qualities of a chef to attract the attention of his public?
The first quality I consider a good chef is body language. As a chef, your body language speaks volumes to the public. If you have good body language for instance showing positive vibes by smiling to everyone and not frowning. This will attract potential customers but if as a chef you have bad body language, it will scare away customers.
The second quality is the manner of communication. Your communication with your customers (public) matters a lot. Poor communication can lead to misunderstandings between the chef and customers. Last week, I went to a restaurant in town to eat after having a stressful day, while I was placing an order, the chef’s friend came in while I was standing and waiting for my food. She ignored me standing and went ahead to serve her friend food first. There was no communication with me to make me understand why she had to serve the friend first before attending to me. I quietly left and that was when she was trying to explain what happened.
The last quality I consider is food presentation. There is a manner in which a good chef presenting your food on a plate attracts the attention of someone to eat the meal.
Create a name for the food program on Saturday night, what would you call it? What kind of food would you focus on?
I once created a food program on the steemit platform about “Steemit Big Chefs”. It was in the form of a contest and if I am allowed to create a tv program on Saturday night, I will host my “Steemit Big Chef” on TV.
On this program, viewers will be able to learn about varieties of Cameroon traditional meals. We have over 254 ethnic groups with different delicacies. Hosting a program as such will help showcase these traditional meals to the world at large.
Permit me to share some of the meals here in pictures such as, ndole with plantains, vegetable salad, pepper soup yellow yam with pork, coki, etc.
Vegetable salad.
Ndole
Coki.
Pepper Soup yam.
To know more about the recipes, rendezvous only when I host the program on tv “Steemit Big Chef”. I have come to the end of my presentation and will invite @majerius, @saxopedia, @paholags and @solaymann to share their thoughts about this topic.
