Traditional cuisine challenge-snack-Moong dal Muruku

Hello my dear ironchefs,

Am Deepthi from Banglore,India. Cooking, designing and creation of art are one of my interests. I participated in food color challenge. Today am participating in Traditional cuisine challenge for the first time. The theme of the week is preparation of snacks.

Today am going to introduce indian traditional snack called Moong dal muruku.To make Muruku the ingredients are as follows:

  • Moong dal
  • Rice flour
  • Dried Red chillies or powder of it
  • salt
  • cooking oil
  • sesame seeds

Preparation process:

The ratio of rice flour:moong dal is 1:1/4.First we need to roast the moong dal in a frying pan until it gets light brown color. We need grind the moong dal and red chillies into fine powder. Add salt and sesame seeds to that container. All the ingredients should be poured into a single container mix it very well.Add heated oil 100 ml of oil to that powder.Add enough warm water to make it like chapathi dough.Now the dough is ready to prepare muruku.we need to put the dough in muruku making machine need to press it on a cover or any plastic sack.on the stove we need to heat the oil in the pan.once the oil get heated we need to put muruku in the oil.once it turns golden brown color we need to take it out from the oil.

Finally the moong dal muruku got ready am going to serve it with tangy tomato chutney.

its very tasty and yummy to have with tomato chutney.In rainy and winter season it can be served as snacks.

Now coming to nutrition values:

Moong dal have rich protein and less carbohydrates when compared to all other dals.sesame seeds are very rich in calcium.Sesame seeds are an excellent source of manganese and calcium, they both help us to grow our bones healthy and strong.
