First we will see what is actually Semolina Flour?

Semolina is a type of coarse flour that’s made from durum wheat, not from the other popular wheat type, known simply as common wheat. When durum wheat is milled, its most nourishing parts are ground into semolina. Durum wheat grains are golden in color, so the milled semolina is a pale-yellow flour. semolina is known as sooji.

Semolina is always high in protein and fibre. It is also high in B Vitamins like thiamine and folate, which plays very important role in our body. Folate is important during pregnancy for the healthy development of your baby, as it helps prevent neural problems such as spina bifida.

It is also very good for disease like Anemia, headaches, joint pain, fatigue, mouth ulcers, osteoporosis and cardiac problems.

What is Gram Flour?

Gram flour is also known as chickpea flour. It is made of ground chickpeas. It is naturally gluten free and contains more proteins than other flours. Traditionally used in indian and middle eastern cooking.Chickpeas are versatile legumes with a mild, nutty taste, and chickpea flour is typically made from a variety called Bengal grams.

Besan is a great alternative to wheat flour if you are trying to reduce your calorie intake. It may decrease hunger which will help you in weight loss. It is packed with rich fibre as tbey are naturally high in this nutrient.

The fibre present in this flour affects the digestive system. It helps in slowing down the system. Due to its slow digestive effect sugar level in the body remains under control.

It is also good for skin and hair. Infact it is a traditional beauty home remedy. It can also be used as acne fighter. It helps in reducing oil of skin, very much effective for oily skins as well as dry skin. It can be very much effective for hair protection as well. Help in reducing dandruff and gives good growth to hair.

Now Coming Towards My Recipe


Since my childhood I saw my Barri Ammi making this delicious sweet dish on different occasions. According to her this is most traditional recipe as well as easy and healthy. As the ingredients have alot of benefits.

She used to make this for small kids as well, according to her this recipe turns out to be best for little kids or infants when they turned 6months and are about to cone on solids. So I learnt this recipe from her and always prefer this for my family and specially my kids.

The ingredients you need for this recipe are:

Crushed CoconutHalf Cup

Preparation


Take a pan, add half cup gram flour and half cup of Semolina Flour. Dry roast them for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes add almonds and dry roast everything for total 10 minutes or till the beautiful aroma start coming out.

When a tempting aroma start coming, add half cup of Ghee and cook till the mixture changes its a colour a bit. After 5 minutes of cooking in ghee it will change its colour then add water and sugar and let it cook in low medium flame so that no chunks are left.

When water gets dry cook it on high flame, till the ghee gets separate from the dish. Do not forget to stir continuously so that the mixture does not stick to the base.

At the end when it completely cooked, add half cup of crushed coconut to it. You can also add more dry fruits you like. Now. Turn off the flame. As the dish is completely ready to eat.

Now dish out the sweet and serve this to your family. This can also be used as a kind of sweet dish in family feasts or friends parties. Serve this to your kids and infants 6months who are in initial stage to take their solids. It will give them a good health.

We call it 'semolina and gram flour halwa' here in Mauritius!

Yes basically this is halwa. But i used sweet dish word because i though maybe many people here from different countries will not understand what a halwa is actually!
