Talk About Christmas Meals

It's just the best time to write about our Christmas meal, how to make them, ingredients use in making them and so on, as Christmas is just around the corner.
My regards to @steemit-ironchef for this great contest and opportunity for everyone in this community to write about the traditional male they use in celebrating christmas.

Christmas is always a special day for christians, it's a day that marks the birth of Jesus Christ, being 25th of every December. Like I said, it's a special day and Christians celebrate it in a big way just as the Muslims celebrate Salah. It's not just celebrated by just going to church, pray and go home, No!
In Nigeria where am from, we use rice to celebrate Christmas, every 25th of December, every family must cook rice, I mean, you'll see all kinds of rice been prepared, both fried rice with chicken, stew rice with salad and chicken or jellof rice with salad and chicken or fish. It's been cooked in a special way because it's just a one-time stuff that comes up only once in every year.

This reminds me of my childhood days, when my family still had enough money to celebrate Christmas in a big way. Every Christmas, my mum must prepare a very delicious stew rice for the family, and the meal must be served with a drink(whine). Christmas always leave big memories in me that I can't easily forget, I always eat more than what my stomach can carry because it tastes delicious. Believe me Christmas rice in Nigeria is always the best, with the best taste, if you visit Nigeria during Christmas, you can't afford to miss it.

Christmas rice in Nigeria are prepared in three way, it's either stew, jellof or fried rice. Am just going to list the few ingredients I know that are used in preparation of the Christmas Meals in Nigeria and how to prepare.

If you're preparing stew or jellof rice, you'll need to get all this ingredients listed below;

  1. Rice,
  2. Groundnut oil,
  3. Tomatoes (both paste and fresh),
  4. Maggi cube and Salt,
  5. Kitchen glory, Curry, Onga and any other spicy you wish to use
  6. Carrot (for the jellof)
  7. Onion

Then for the fried rice, Well I can't prepare fried rice so I'll list the little I know. You'll need these;

  1. Rice,
  2. Green beans,
  3. Carrot,
  4. Groundnut oil,
  5. Curry spicy.
  6. Salt and Maggi cube

NOTE: We don't use tomato in cooking fried rice.

Then for the salad, these are the few ingredients I know.

  1. Garbage
  2. Carrot
  3. Butter Cream.

NOTE: Don't forget to get your meat, it makes it more delicious. Just fry the meat and keep it separate.

Preparation

Since I can't prepare fried rice and salad, and I know little on how to prepare stew and jellof rice. I'll be sharing the little I know on how to cook them.
Procedures of cooking stew rice:

  • Cook your with rice in a separate pot.
  • Get another empty pot and put it on fire.
  • Add the amount of groundnut oil you need, then allow it to set.
  • Add salt
  • Add your Onion, together with your fresh tomato and tomato paste too, then allow it for some minutes.
  • Add your Maggi cube and your spicy
  • Add water
  • Cover your pot and allow it for some minutes, then bring it down.
Food is ready, very easy to prepare.

Steps in preparing jellof rice:

  • Per-boil your rice
  • Fry your tomato (both paste and fresh) in an empty pot
  • Fry together with your spicy
  • Don't forget to put your salt and Maggi cube
  • Put enough water, then put back per-boiled rice in that same pot
  • Cover it and wait for the water dry off.
    Your food is ready

With Whom Do You Make It With, And With Whom Do You Share With? Do You Observe Any Tradition When Eating It?

Normally, in the family, the mother of the family does the cooking, so I don't make the meal but my mother does that with my junior sister, while we get other things ready, making the environment look colorful. We share the meal together as one family, which make it memorable.
We eat the meal together with joy and happiness, and also with the Christmas song playing. That's the normal tradition we celebrate the Christmas in my family every year.

Conclusion

To me, Nigeria is the best place to celebrate Christmas, it's always full of fun and enjoyment.
