Back to school delicacies 🥐

Somehow, I know I am not left out of this; surely, I was once a kid, and I saw the way and manner mom and dad took care of us in the aspect of making breakfast for us or providing us with snacks.

🥐Do you prepare breakfast for the kids to take away or eat before school? Tell us a bit about breakfast, and preferences at home.

As a student teacher, I saw many pupils come to school with food and try to eat it before going for morning devotion. We stopped them because we saw it as not normal. There is always a break time, and it is usually 10:40-11:20. It varies by school and class, but this is generally adopted. Understanding the time children are permitted to eat from their launch box makes parents plan to ensure they eat before leaving. I had never left the house without eating; even when I was in secondary school, mom has never let that happen.

That is why in school days either she prepares the breakfast a day before or makes something simple that morning so that we won't leave without eating. Sometimes, we take tea and bread or Indomie noodles or rice prepared in different ways; it could be rice and stew, but the stew is always done a day before, and most times, we take yam or plantain porridge, though not prepared that morning.

🥐 What are the healthiest, quickest, and easiest to carry breakfasts for kids ?

We don't carry tea most of the times because if it gets cold, it would no longer be sweet for consumption; it may likely sour in the bottle for noodles when cold; I don't normally find it sweet for consumption as a child, though sometimes I forced myself to take them during break time. Judging from my appetite, some children may feel the same way too, so I would prefer porridge, pasta (this is different from noodles), rice and stew, fried rice, and potatoes with sauce. A snack is also preferable, that is, if the kids had taken something before leaving. When I was a kid, I was always with snacks (aa juice known as bobo and a biscuit). Though when I was in secondary school, my younger siblings were preferred to be given the snack most times over us because we were a bit mature and sometimes we were all given.

🥐 Are the snacks homemade, do you buy them, or do you give the money to buy them at the canteen ?

Some parents may not permit giving money based on the level of maturity of their kids; even with this, I would prefer buying for them because oftentimes I have heard pupils complain about misplacing their pocket money. If this happens, the child does not have a snack, which may serve as a mini-lunch. Some snacks given by a mom, like a palm cake, yam and plantains chips, and zobo dri, were homemade.

🥐 Updating a bit on costs, what is the average daily snack cost in your country's currency and in steem?

The way prices of things skyrocket rapidly may make prices unstable, but I would have also loved to tell you the difference between the prices back then and now. Another thing is that the quality of the snack determines the price. Children love quality snacks that will taste good in their mouths.

An average cost of each snack is N500-N1000 which is about 1.529––3.047 steem, snack is eaten between meals, this will help you understand that it may not cost much since food is on it way.
