SEC/S16-W5: With the flavor and taste of my country by @rossnenye

Hello everyone, good morning to you all. Wow, it's week 5 of our season16 engagement contest with the topic "SEC/S16-W5: With the flavor and taste of my country" and I will be writing about the various food grown in my Country Nigeria.
Foods in my Country

My Country Nigeria is a Large Country with over 250 ethnic groups and this various ethnic groups are blessed with varieties of foods and ingredients. Some of the major ethics groups includes Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Urhobo, Efik and Idoma.

Some of the major foods in my Country includes.

Yam

Yam is the king of food in my Country Nigeria, Infact a festival called the New yam festival is a festival used to celebrate yam. It is one of the most cultivated crop here in Nigeria. It is a root tuber and good source of Carbohydrate. After cultivating it, it takes about 7-8months for it to grow. Yam can be cooked as porridge, boiled and eaten with oil or sauce or pounded and eaten as swallow with soup like okro, Egusi, Bitterleaf or Ogbono.

Rice

Rice is another food crop grown in my Country. It is one of the mostly eaten food in my Country. It can be prepared white and eaten with stew or sauce. It can equally be cooked fried, coconut or Jollof. It is a grain cro and it is a high source of Carbohydrate.

Tomato

Tomato is a fruit crop grown by mostly the Northern part of Nigeria. It is an important ingredient in most of Nigeria cuisine such as Jollof rice, tomato stew, eforiro and tomato salad. It is a seasonal ingredient seen mostly around December to April. It contains vitamins which is good for the sight, it also helps in the healing of wounds.

Onions

Onions is an important ingredient in most of Nigeria meals. It is cultivated by mostly the Northern part of my Country. It gives good taste and aroma to food. Research has shown that onions is good for the eyes and heart. It is rich in vitamin, mineral and also an antioxidant.

Palm fruit

This is one of the most important cash crop grown in Nigeria, it is grown in the Eastern part of Nigeria. Palm fruit is used in preparing Banga soup, it is also used in making Palm oil which is a major ingredients in almost all dishes prepared in my Country. Palm fruit also serves as a major source of revenue to Nigeria because the juice is extracted and transported outside Nigeria.

Aside from cooking, it's fronds can be used in making cane chairs, hand fans and broom. The oil extracted from it's kernel is used to manufacture so many goods in the Industries.

You have tell us the most produce things in your country ,yams, onions and tomatoes.Tomatoes and onions is also one of the highest things produce on my country Cameroon .It’s seems we have similar product to produce.Goodluck
