After a long time I haven't posted in this community, now I'm back to greet all my friends through this post and share a little story about my activities.

Yesterday I went on a trip to the interior of the forest in Bener Meriah Regency – Indonesia, to be exact, Gunung Kapal as the local people call it. A tropical rain mountain with a height of 2,783 meters above sea level.

Like a tropical rain forest in general, various types of moss seem to thrive among the towering trees and also trees that have rotted with age.

There are several types of moss that I encountered here, including:

1. Antler Moss
2. Leaf Moss
3. Liver Moss

Types of hornworts and leaf mosses mostly grow on twigs and tree trunks, while types of liverworts grow on moist soil surfaces.

Moss plants have a role in the ecosystem as a provider of oxygen and water storage because of the nature of their cells that resemble sponges, and also act as pollutant absorbers. Moss plants are also known as pioneer plants that are able to live in environments that other plants do not like in general.

The mosses that grow on tropical rainforest soil help to resist erosion, reduce the risk of flooding and can absorb water in the dry season.
