MEDICINAL PLANT BASIL

Hello friends! today I'm going to introduce a commonly known medicinal plant basil.

Basil (English: holy basil, or tulasī) (scientific name: Ocimum Sanctum) is a medicinal plant. Tulsi means incomparable. Basil is a fragrant plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family. It is revered by the Hindu community as a sacred plant. In the Brahmakaivartapurana, Tulsi is called 'Sitasvarupa', in the Skandapurana 'Lakshisvarupa', in the Charkasanghita it is called 'Vishnupriya', in the Rikveda it is called 'Kalyani'.

Basil is an evergreen shrub 2/3 feet tall with dense branches. The main stem is woody, the leaves are 2-4 cm long. The edges of the leaves are grooved, 5 inflorescences emerge from the apex of the branch and there are 10-20 umbrella-shaped flowers around each inflorescence. 6 small flowers bloom at each level. Its leaves, flowers, and fruits have a pungent odor. The basil plant provides a lot of oxygen to the environment, which is why it is called the 'Oxygen Reservoir'.

Basil is found almost everywhere in Bangladesh and India. In Hinduism, Tulsi is worshiped as a goddess, so it is more common in Hindu homes. Basil is cultivated commercially in India. Although not cultivated commercially in Bangladesh, it is widely used as a medicinal plant and in herbal medicine. The buds appear in July, August or November, December. They can be seen growing from the plains to the foothills of the Himalayas at an altitude of about 6,000 feet.

Use
Basil has many medicinal uses. Basil has been used for various problems like cold, cough, chills, etc. since ancient times. Good results can be obtained by playing with basil juice and honey for any problem of cold and flu. The sap of this tree is anthelmintic and antiseptic. [2] The sap, leaves, and seeds of this tree are used as medicine. Basil is widely used in Ayurveda and herbal medicine, especially in the Indian subcontinent.
