I welcome you to my participation in the week 1 Engagement contest with the title: How much of a scout am I?
After reading the 10 scout codes , there's one that has really got my attention with the I quotes saying "The scout is a friend to everyone and a brother to any other scout". With me having a little experience with the Scout codes but this statement is part of the Scout Law and it is something that seems to have an important value to me.
An important question is that What does it mean by the code "The scout is a friend to everyone and a brother to any other scout"
The Code "The scout is a friend to everyone and a brother to any other scout" is a statement that sort of describes the spirit of brotherhood and it holds an important value in the Scout Law.
It means that a scout is someone who is always ready to help others and show kindness, respect, and loyalty to everyone, regardless of their background, their ethnicity, or beliefs. And it also means that the Scouts view each other as equal members of a big Large family, it means a scout from other region is also friend and a brother to another scout regardless of their region.
The anecdote I could remember with the Scout code "The scout is a friend to everyone and a brother to any other scout " was doing a Inter-house sport in my secondary school where we had the boys scout performing at the opening.
I witnessed this principle in action during the program, while the rest of us were gathered at the podium, one of the scouts suddenly fell ill and there was no easy way to get help at the moment, without hesitation, the rest of the boys scouts stepped forward and offered to help.
One scout, who happened to be their leader or so has more medical experience, he assessed the situation and provided first aid to him, while others kept the sick scout company and provided moral support to.
I was amazed by how quickly everyone came together to help, despite that they are from different school and not everyone know the sick scout that well, despite that they stick by him and support him till he got help and was taken away.
The only scout I still have memory of is the one from my secondary school , his name is Oluwasegun Lawal, he is in the Man-O war scout and he is doing a great job has have always seen.
He lives in my country (Nigeria) and Lagos to be precised, the activity have mostly seen him done is train other upcoming scouts like him, and I also heard that he got a job in the barracks to lead some young's scout and he serves as a teacher at the barracks.
Their unit motto is "Be Prepared".
What this motto means is that they are prepared to always be ready for any situation at any time.
In conclusion, The scout Law "The scout is a friend to everyone and a brother to any other scout" holds an important value in the scout law and shows the spirit of brotherhood and unity in the scout community.
Scouts all over the world live by these same law and it is amazing for one to witness this in a real-life situations. I hope have been to shed some light on the meaning of this statement.I would like to invite @jueco, @Lhorgic, and @jasminemary to participate in this contest.
